What is the worst Pre-Med Major?

Although they don't necessarily "favor" majors I think it is more of a rigor of studies thing. Major in what you want, but I mean if outside of your premed if you screw up your courses for what is considered an easy major it will probably hurt you. As much as some people would like to think I have a hard time thinking that the schools compare a 3.1 in psychology to a 3.1 nuclear engineering or something..... I have a weird mix that is by far not normal, but I also have to do a postbacc program since I didn't anticipate wanting this to later....at least I'll have a BA and a BS and a minor (by accident)

Wat in good god's name is wrong with psycology??? This isn't the first time i have heard psychology being used in a contest like this. I intend to do a BS in psychology because i have a genuine interest in how our mind works but im not liking this recurring usage of psychology being used as the "easy" major.

Because psychology is the dumping ground for people who have decided not to fight the urge to party during college and want a major that won't interfere too much with this pursuit. Hence, it is an easy major and serves the purpose of keeping warm paying bodies in the seats who would otherwise go to plumbing school and learn something useful.

I've got nothing against partying in college. I was kicked out of college for essentially doing the same at the expense of studying...but I was trying to hold down an engineering major at the time.

I can imagine how hard it would be to describe your mathematical research to an interviewer. I was only voicing an opinion I had seen others post about being a CS major. I would think with our increasing reliance upon computers as humans that more CS majors would be entering the medical field. Right now I'm currently a Business Major with an emphasis on medical practice management and have minors in Chemistry and Computer Science. So I feel as though I will have a pretty good mixture if I can one day aspire to a practice or have my own.

Hi KingTutATL, that's a very rare and interesting combination of majors. It certainly sounds like good preparation for having your own practice one day. I think the reason why there aren't many CS majors in medicine is because people with CS skills know that they can start earning large amounts of money sooner if they apply their CS skills to other fields.

Also, I think that it's equally difficult to excel in any field, be it psychology or engineering or English. By "excel," I mean really going above and beyond the required classes, doing original research, etc. At some schools, however, it's easy to major in psychology if you have no intention of excelling but merely want to pass the bare minimum of required classes. This certainly doesn't mean that psych is an inherently easier field, though. I think that any major can be difficult if you challenge yourself to excel at it, and med schools should be able to recognize when students are excelling, which is why they are said not to care what field you major in. In short, I think you can do whatever you want, as long as you do it enthusiastically and well.

I'd say if someone is going to party, they'll do it as a bio major OR a psyc major. However, they may not have quite as much time to do so.

When psychology is portrayed as "dumping grounds" or "party major", it infers that no one can have a real interest in it OR it is of less importance OR they didn't earn their degree "as much". It's a form of elitism--the electrical engineer major earned his degree more than a bio major...bio major earned it more than psyc major....psyc major earned it more than the communication major etc.

The really sad thing is that while all psyc majors party their brains out 🙄 ---their major will probably lead to as good or better employment prospects when compared to bio majors. (I'm not a psyc major)
