On the acceptance letter from BU, they wrote in bold letters that my acceptance is provisional, pending the completion of my application requirements (that's fine), and also on my participation in their EXCEL program. Does anyone or everyone else have the same message? I thought that the EXCEL program was optional...

i was just curious, i thought it maybe meant they thought I wasn't smart enough to jump right in, or wasnt committed to dentistry or something

Nothing about EXCEL. Where does it say that on yours and what are your stats?

I'm beginning to think that it's either because i have very little dental experience or because i'm taking the last semester of school off, so they want to get me back into the whole academic thing.

my GPA is a little above 3.7, 20AA, 19TS, 22PAT

only 12 hours of shadowing though, and i graduated in november.

It is what it is. Your acceptance is conditional according to what they've written.

there are a few schools that have this sort of program for aid. some are merely that, offering you the chance to prepare yourself for the rigors of dental school as a transitional period. some schools choose you b/c your stats may not be as high or based off your record there has been highs and lows BUT they do want you at their school cause they do see potential and they want to help you out. they only offer this to so many people. Other schools choose people based off of their ethnic background as part of their multicultural office or student related office. As much as it sucks internally to think that you would have to do such a program realize it still means that you did get into dental school or if you DO really want to go to dental school its just a little step to cross to get in. congrats either way of getting an offer.
