I have always heard that Scholl is a great school, and even had the impression that it was top half of the Pod schools. But this year's, 2013, match had 25 out 100 qualifying students having to scramble. Out of the 25, only 8 got something in the scramble so 17 out of 100 graduates who passed the boards and everything didn't match.

That is the highest percentage out of all 9 schools.

So my question is, why did this happen? I know there is a residency shortage, what I am wondering is why Scholl got hit the hardest? Was the externship placements really badly matched? Does the school have a bad reputation with residency programs? I always see the Scholl Official Rep on here answering questions but he/she has been really mum about this whole ordeal. And this an important one, I could care less if a school's clinic isn't high tech, or the tests are hard or the gym is too small and the cafeteria food sucks. What matters at the end of the day is RESIDENCY.

I am really curious about this since Scholl is one of the schools that I got into but I need to know what they are doing or not doing about this situation?

Worry about yourself. If you know you are going to work your ass off in school then any school will provide you the baseline knowledge to succeed. I've enjoyed my time at Scholl and I've learned a lot. But I've learned even more while out on clerkships and that's because I want to match at a program of my choice and not just "somewhere".

Da Troof.

I do not go to Scholl, nor do I have any affiliation, but you can't give them a bad rep simply due to the 2013 match results. There are so many factors involved in a student matching that you cannot blame the school for one years outcome.

My biggest advice to all the pre pods on SDN is to get off SDN and visit local programs. Talk to residents/attendings and get your advice anywhere but these horrible biased forums.

We've had good students and bad students from about every school. We also have residents from several different schools. When we have a bad string of students from Scholl, we make fun of the residents from Scholl for a while. That lasts until the string of bad students from Des Moines and we make fun of the residents from Des Moines. And so it goes for all the schools. Personally, I've liked most of the Scholl students I've met. I would definitely say it's a school to look at for any pre-pod who is interested.

Thanks Anklebreaker for the long and detailed answer. I have been reading as much as I can on each of the schools that I got accepted into.

I have been lurking on this forum for the last 2 years and I always had the impression that Scholl was on top of things, I was especially impressed with the Scholl Admin. person on here answering questions back in the days. That's why I was so surprised by the number of Scholl students who scrambled.

Do you know how Scholl did in the past matches? I know that previous year there wasn't as big of a shortage so every school pretty much did okay.

Also, do you think the fact that IL only has 13 residency locations compared to like NY(30) or Temple in PA (21) has anything to do with residency placement? I know that most places have a particular lean towards the school in that area. Thanks
