I'm curious to see what the "hardest" course is at other dental schools and why...is it the material, the amount of material, the nazi course director, etc etc

this should be interesting

So far (first quarter) it is anatomy. A rough 7 credit hour combination of gross anatomy, embryology, and histology. I find it's the volume of material that makes it the most difficult.

Now that I have nearly completed every didactic course at my school, I would say it was Neuroanatomy. The class involved a lot of information. Also we had to know details. Also it was an accelerated 8 week class.

Anatomy was hard because it was just about pure memorization. There's no way around it. Classes like physio were difficult but things made sense so you could reason your way through some test questions.

Biochem though was probably one of the craziest courses I have taken so far. None of the material individually is tough but there is just so much of it to know that the course itself is incredibly challenging.

Classes like neuro, physio, patho, micro, and pharm have been tough but manageable.

Gross Anatomy is our hardest class, but the course directors are awesome... (can't say that about some other classes)

IMS (integrated medial sciences) - it includes all of the core science classes (biochem, anat, phys). We study material according to organ systems. The part that was the hardest was the Neuro section... too many pathways and names to memorize. It was second semester of first year. For instance,
the last semster of IMS had Hematology, Dental theraputics (all the drugs), GI, Musculoskeletal, Reproductive, and Skin.

Anatomy's easy. Histo's a joke. Heck, the sciences are pretty much all easy. What isn't easy is waxing. It's by far my worst grade.

Oral path, hands down, for the toughest didactic course in dental school. Ditto fixed pros in lab. I still shiver thinking about those two.
