I know the MCAT is computer based, and for the essay, you need to use the keyboard. So I was just curious to know what type of keyboards they use.

I'm buying a new laptop soon Sony Vaio FW Series) and the keyboard is spaced out like a mac. I mean I'm not too worried about the whole keyboard thing when it comes to the MCAT, but I know that it is a learning curve to just get used to the new spaced out keyboard.

I'm thinking the MCAT keyboards will be the ordinary keyboards, and maybe worrying too much, but I do want to be able to type fast and efficiently without typos and errors, so I was thinking about getting a laptop that didn't have spaced keyboards just to be familiar with it.

What do you guys think?

I think that it is more like a normal PC keyboard since most people use PCs, not macs.

n other news--they keys are in the same place so wtf are you talking about. It isnt like they have those DVORAK keyboards....

You're wayyy overthinking it. I typed with two fingers and did just fine.

yeah at my testing center they were normal PC keyboards like you'd see in your school's library. super basic, nothing fancy. don't fret over it. my only complaint was the quality of the monitor...I think my terminal had some issues because the lines of text appeared to be vibrating a little bit...kinda like the connection was bad.

although the shaking could have just been me haha.

They definitely need to update computers for the mcat with all the money they make of us who agrees?

the computers really aren't a big issue. my screen would freeze up for a couple seconds (which is very scary when you're sitting there in the real thing) and then go on. luckily my test center had nice 15" lcds.

if they want to upgrade something, it should be the monitors. there have been many complaints of how people had crappy monitors that didnt work etc.

That would be so scary! Wasn't it annoying if it stopped so frequently?

Also just curious did your timer stop to at those moments?

I really hope my computer doesn't crash or something on test day 🙂
