What kind of laptop computer is good?

I need to buy a laptop computer very soon and have very little idea what I should get or what I will need when I start medical school in September. I searched through the Internet this evening and discovered many different brands and now I am completely confused. What is a good brand for laptops, any suggestions? Hope someone can help me out.

I got a Dell 4100 inspirion. I will be using it when I start in August. I am very pleased with their product and would definitly recommend it. Its light weight and dell is known for good customer service.
