I guess they wanna have something that compliments the words written in your application. After all, it's much more fun to read a book with pictures as oppose to one with no pictures. I think same goes with the application process. First of all it's fun to see the people who have written the info you're reading in their applications. Besides, having a picture that compliments your words might make it easier for them to draw conclusions on your personality (No matter how hard we try to say we're not superficial, physical appearances do have an impact on our judgment of different people). Obviously, if the doctor who is about to perform a major operation on you walks into a room with a skull tattoo on his neck, you wouldn't be very comfortable with the idea of him/her cutting through your body with a sharp object!
That might be true for undergrad, because I went to that school and let me tell you our undergrad chick population is quite impressive in terms of looks!! However, I highly doubt that's the case for our dental school. Let's just say I've seen hotter cases at other schools!
