I have a background in statistics, and would like to use statistics in my medical career. I was wondering what kind of research PM&R specialists do? I looked through the PM&R academy journal, but even there is was mostly small studies with 6-14 people. Are there any very big (e.g. 10,000-100,000) scale studies that look at tons of cases?

you can do research that involves databases - i did one during residency using the IRF PAI data base and the model systems SCI database - extracted data on about 5000 medicare patients over 3 yr period and 2700 patients from the MSCIS (model systems) database and compared characteristics.

Cool, thanks for the reply. That's the kind of stuff I'm doing with surgery outcomes right now and I think it's interesting stuff.
