What made you guys choose pathology?

howdy. i'm a n00b interested in pathology. here are my questions...

so, why did you guys decide that pathology was right for you? was it just a general distaste for or apathy toward patient care? lifestyle? science? something else?

also, besides looking at biopsy slides and doing autopsies, what else do pathologists do? also, is it uber-competitive to match at a top place like it would be in rads/etc?
