I thought many people major in biology to become a dentist.
I know that u don't have to major in science to apply dental school.
My question is....what if u get rejected and u still want to work around dentist office?

I told one of the dental assitance that I am majoring in biology but she said if i get rejected, all i can do is just becoming a biology teacher(or animal channel person 😱 )

so...what should i major in then?
It would also be wonderful if i could have more info about pre-dental, dental hygiene major, etc.

Not true, many applicants major in subjects other than biology (or science for that matter).

If you want to stay around, then go for it. No one is forcing you to leave if you get rejected.

Why on earth did you tell the assistant that? There are so many things you can do with a biology degree, from research to engineering, etc. Heres a quick list http://www.millikin.edu/biology/what_to_do.html You're only limited to your imagination.

Major in what interests you. You're the one paying the tuition so don't waste your money and time taking classes that'll just put you to sleep.

major in whatever the hell you want... unless you major in a technical field like say engineering, it won't really matter what you majored in when you apply for a job.

Bravo! Well written. Joon, you are bringing the collective IQ level of the pre-dental forum down... way down. Please think and rethink.. and then rethink some more before you post.

I can't believe I actually read alot of Joonkimdds treads... hahahhaha just kidding dawg... I just had to respond before you pursue this dds dental dream any further.... Rule number one... always pursue your dreams forward... to completion... don't have doubts... its normal to have but don't let them get you down... you're talking about 'what if I don't make it... " things like that already... you haven't even completed a degree yet... kudos to you for taking the first step by pursuing a volunteer/intership position... thats the first step... that will give you a taste of what this profession is all about.. you have to be patient.... learn what you can... be proactive with the time your there.... Being a bio major does not mean you're obligated to be a bio teacher... thats just a plain ignoramous statement.. do your research... there are plenty of opportunities... I spent the last five years in R&D research at a couple of prominent pharmaceuticals... and worked with many "bio majors" that made a good living....but in your case ... bio or what ever major will be your stepping stone.. your proving grounds ...a way to prove to dental schools that you can handle their grueling curriculum.... so make sure your on the ball with your grades... shadowing is great but GPA and academics and DAT is what gets you in.... the rest is gravy...

In a nut shell .... you sound like you want to pursue dentistry... from your SDN ID (joonkimdds) you already placed that on your agenda... go fo it... but take it one step at a time... don't think to far ahead... or you might get lost.

I agree with wholeheartedly going after what you want, but I can understand where Joon is coming from. It's always good to have a backup plan.....it's just good business sense IMO.

If you like biology then major in it, if not, pick something you truely enjoy studying
