What makes a successful, unique pre-med….

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

it, is that really you in your pic? i get confused by peoples pics. girls are really boys etc.

i think a big drinker/drug user would be unique in a premed🙂 somewhat unique anyway..whether it guarantees success, i do not know, but it could indicate better social skills, an open mind. then again, it could indicate waste and insecurity. shrug. and how bout someone that hangs out with all different kinds of people. instead of just claiming to believe in equality and good care for everyone, they actually live it in their real lives. hang out with hs and college dropouts, blue collar workers, and rocket scientists. builds character and humility.
i think.
shrug
at least different than hanging out with premeds all the time or posting on sdn..
SHRUG

nope

are you trying to imply something about moi?? hmmm?

Okey… so all of you really like this food combo and want continue on the recipie.. that’s just marvelous. !!!!
Now, seriousness, but with long-lasting fun…Lets rock and roll.
Shifting gears and components of the discussion!!!!There is no point of the whole thing now.. talk about anything…food to combo to personal to giving your cat a star buck’s water, to anything………..

Crackers sounds great!!!

Oh!!

Are you talking about???

"""The Crackers" is as much a public happening as it is a tasty snack, defying the domino theory. Peanut butter or cheddar cheese. They poured their hearts and souls into the project for over 26 minutes. It required three dozen crackers and spanned over nearly 23 inches along a footbridge in the park at a cost (borne exclusively by the artists) of $2.50. Is it art? You decide. The installation was completed with no permits or bureaucracy, and fed to the ducks after about a half hour.""""

A simple "yes" would've sufficed.

So where were we on cooking the recipe of uniqueness and being a successful premed?

So are we going to Mac, taco etc..?
are we still cooking??!!!!

The recipes of being a successful premed – that’s what I decided to cook in middle ‘no formula or mathematical equation.’

JustR: im just wondering, is english your first language?

Indigoblue,
“fill in the details once i'm accepted” – you always fill the details when you start an application, so filling detail before acceptance is on the plus side I think.

time to be brutally honest... i was at a school last year interviewing for a spot in their med school class. i had my good suit on (a navy blue classic-style two button one-breasted), but the weather was very cold... since it was in chicago, there was massive amounts of snow... some people had on overcoats that matched the weather... but i on the other hand, didn't think about buying an overcoat along with my suit... i could have easily bought one on credit, but alas, all i had was a short nylon nautica jacket (one of those that have Nautica in bright white print on the sleeves)... i felt out of place the whole day and that ruined my attitude.

so, in this case presentation wins... it plays a part in attitude and appearing nicely (self-image included) is a definite plus in a successful premed.

thanks for giving me the soap box for a second or two.

Did I give you a soap box?? Oh!!! Maybe I rubbed it too hard and too harshly unintentionally. I am sorry for the soaping. 😳 😳 😉

Well, Indigoblue, “time to be brutally honest” --- But I thought it was very interesting, witty and informative.

Am I the only one that sees the things in a different point of views or maybe totally opposite?

Have you noticed the post before that I wrote it for you?

JTank, Got to tell you your writing has something that makes my crazy head to calm down.

Succinct, but so touchy writing.

You write one sentence, and somehow I don’t want to fight back to it or ignore it for that matter. I hear a familiar voice deep within. 😎

I never have seen you raising a question on SDN recently.

But, since you asked, I have got questions for you.

How did it come into wonder if English is my first language??
Why are you being so nice to me?
FREAKS me out like you are pulling my history threads!!!!!

Oh!! I forgot to answer!!!
Honestly, English is not my first language, and I am Tri-Lingual completely, meaning I know how to read, write and speak smoothly in three languages.

There is a fourth one, but I can only read and write, not speak so eloquently.

And the fifth one is almost on my door knocking to wake me up and grab it, but I guess I am too lazy right now.

We got one more in our Combo... Interview and presentation matters!!!

If you're actually wondering what makes a successful pre-med, I think it's good grades, good MCAT's, but I'm going to guess most importantly, maturity. Maturity means knowing your limitations because you've tested your limits and knowing your place in life and in the world, i.e. humility.

These things actually all fit together, believe it or not. Being smart (usually, unless you are in the 0.5%-of-all-people-real-genius crowd) only gets you so far. You get grades by being disciplined, and discipline is a sign of maturity. You do good on the MCAT by studying for it, studying takes discipline, and discipline is a sign of maturity. You also need a quiet mind to do well on the MCAT. You aren't easily rattled. Again, maturity.

So what gets you in? Maturity. How do you get it? Live. How will you know when you have it? You treat other people with respect, including yourself, and you realize that you don't know crap and you should keep your stupid mouth shut, unless someone asks you, which they probably didn't.

There's your philosophical answer.

Love and kisses,

I don't think JustR is a troll. A troll is someone who comes on the boards to state inflammatory things and try to rile people up and cause fights. Trying to start a fight is not what JustR has done. So I wouldn't classify him as a troll.

I just said too much Caffeine, did not even say I drank coffee.
And, Darling?????

UNEXPECTED TRIPPED OVER THREAD

PS: they were a BIT more overly polite words, "darling and sweetie?"

JUST WONDERING.......
If you are a darling or sweetie to someone does it make a unique pre-med??

Well - I don't like to brag, but... ooh, wait, wait - does it have to be to a specific person or just a general sweetie? I think we might have a few hundred unique premeds here. Back to square one. Quick, someone take off their clothes and do something just plain nutty.

Anastasis... are you..y..y..you s-serious? Stop at one pot? Is there a rule on alcohol? Please say no!
:scared:
Meh, I can still type.

Caboose.

Caboose said:

Doctors don’t take off their clothes, so not the pre-meds. They always put scrubs on…
Yeah... It’s a fact on the side that it is always the case a patient has to change clothes in hospital, which is lame.

Caboose said:

I say general sweetie would not make it unique because it is GENERAL. Specific ones yeah!! That’s unique.

I don’t know if there is a rule on Alcohol about being pre-med.
We have not gotten that to yet.
We were talking about the FOOD, combos, ice cream and then we got to coffee…
Yeah… somethings were left out and the alcohol was one of them. So bring it on!!!

I am thinking about putting a swimwear on when I go a future party.

When someone asks me, “R do you know this is winter and not summer, right?”

I will response, “yeah!!! I do know that. But it just that I am trying to be a unique pre-med.”

I will argue with you…
I wonder why you would think that I am a unique pre-med, huh??
oh!!! got ya... you were the one who said that EVERYONE is unique, and need to look at one's self carefully.
So you're unique, too then.

BUT, what if ....I don’t want that UNIQUE banner on my head….
Take if off please, I got this heavy metal poster hanging on my head….!!! :scared: :scared:

going to africa or some bullsh*t self indulgent thing like that doesn't make you unique. it just means you're more ambitious at self promotion than the other guy who spends his time mentoring kids from the local neighborhood. what is truly unique, or at least rare, is having a consistent pattern of being able to find your own interests, your own niche, and contributing meaningfully in those areas so as to benefit not only others, but to improve yourself as well. having and being able to demonstrate genuine interest and intellectual curiosity is very very rare among applicants and medical students. many are so used to doing things for recognition that they don't have any time or motivation for things that they might really be interested in. if you are the type that has genuine interest, it will shine through - you will not need to shove it down someone's throat for them to recognize it.

I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew a girl that did all sorts of things, like writing short stories, playing 2 instruments, working as a life guard, formerly playing soccer both pro and on the college team at different periods of time, coaching soccer players of a highschool, performed undergrad research, etc. She had a high GPA and 30+MCAT, but she was always consistent in one thing..........She really really really was passionate about whatever she did. She didn't do it to pad her resume but because they were things she wanted to try in life. Those are the kind of students that are the most well rounded.
