I am an international student from Canada, attending undergraduate in States.
My sci GPA is 4.00 and overall GPA is 3.92. Volunteered at hospital for five years now.
Have little more than 100 credits completed, with no repeated classes so far.

I am taking MCAT on July 22nd, and I am currently getting around 510 on practice exams.
Would I be competitive enough for schools such as MSUCOM, EVCOM and AZCOM?
What MCAT score do I need to be assured that I would have at least one medical school this cycle?

P.S: What are some new opening schools that I could apply to? No matter what people say, med-school is med-school; as long as I have a place to go, I will be satisfied 😀

With GPAs like that I think you should be aiming for a 513+ and you'll get into at least one MD school, not sure how the international status plays into it though

Thank you for your comment. I will study hard and aim for 513+ on MCAT.
I am planning to apply MD as well as DO, but I really do not mind whether it's MD or DO.
Money is not an issue nor my goal; I want to become a primary care physician and work in rural areas where it lacks medical service.

Do you have any specific school suggestions?

As long as you score well on your MCAT , pretty much all schools except schools like the one in Ohio that pretty much only take in state students

No score can 100% guarantee you an acceptance anywhere because there are other factors at play but... Yes, you would be an extremely appealing candidate for any DO school that accepts Canadian applicants. I would apply to MD schools too because you don't want to limit yourself.

Get your app in early though because I know some schools cap how many international students they accept (MSU takes 25 a year for example).

You want to give yourself options. With your GPA...there is absolutely no reason you should be settling for DO. The ONLY reason I would go to a DO program over MD is if you have significant geographic restrictions or absolutely want OMT to be a part of your clinical practice. Otherwise, go MD. Even if you want to go primary care...it could be the difference between getting a great residency education or a poor one.

Thank you j4pac. If I get into MD I would be happy to go there and I definitely will. All I meant is that if I only get into DO, I would also be happy to go there as well.
I received OMM treatment from a DO for quite a time due to waist pain, and I was surprised at how effective it was for me. I would love to learn OMM 🙂
I am planning to apply 20 MD schools and 19 DO schools for this cycle. Hope I get in somewhere~~

P.S: I have about 19 credits left to graduate...
Do you think it would be wiser to take fewer classes for Fall just in case I might get few interviews to attend, and just graduate in 2017 spring??
But there is always a possibility that I might not get any interviews this cycle. Life is dilemma 😛

I would love to apply early, but my MCAT score would be out in late August 🙁
I will, however, submit primary application on June 1st, and update application when MCAT score is released.
