What MCAT will put me in reasonable position

So I have a GPA of approximately 3.2 after I retake classes, the science gpa will be around the same. Can someone tell what kind of MCAT I am looking at to be competitive for DO admissions. I have looked at some online "calculators" and it looks like 27-29 will make me competitive. Can I get other thoughts on this?

You should be ok with around a 28 as you said, with the stipulation that you apply early.

Currently there are many people who have applied later and are sitting on waitlists with ~3.5gpas and 30+ mcat scores.

I agree with MLT's advice. If you can hit a 28 on your MCAT and you apply early, I think you can get some interviews/acceptances.

I applied with a 3.26/27 and received 3 interviews/1 acceptance (declined the other 2 interviews).

apply early! that's really your best bet with DO schools. aim high with your MCAT too. A 30 or above would be ideal but you'll probably be fine with a 28.

I had almost the exact same GPA as you do and aimed for a 30+ MCAT but ended up only getting a 26. I also ended up applying a little later than I should have (September). I was still able to get 3 interviews and 1 acceptance though, but it felt like it was by the skin of my teeth.

What frustrated me was that I was consistently getting 35s on MCAT practice tests 😛 It all worked out in the end though.

I also applied in september (secondaries varied with a few going into october or november i think) with a 26 mcat. 3.5cgpa, 3.3 science, and ended up with 4 interviews and was accepted at the first school, so i did not attend the others. i also had a few emails from schools that i did not complete the secondary urging me to do so, which made me think i might have got a few more offers to interview if i had filled these out (who knows if thats true or not). Either way, it is doable. I wish i had got a few points higher on my mcat but it ended up working out for me. Like someone else said, the later you get in the cycle the worse your chances become. There are several people hoping to get into the school i will be attending with 30+ mcats, so just do your best and apply as early as possible.

All I can tell you is that if you keep your 3.2 GPA, but you get a 34T you can apply on the edge of the deadline and get in to most anywhere. I know.... huge jump from 28ish to 34, but hitting a homer on the MCAT can make the DO schools forget all about your GPA. (not so much for allopathic schools)

The MCAT really is the wildcard, isn't it? I was going to apply this year, but a bad grade in physics has kind of slowed my GPA repair. I am going to retake it in the summer and study for the MCAT. Maybe I will apply this year if I rock the MCAT.

This appears to be true, at least in my experience. I applied late (Oct-Nov) with a sub-par GPA, but a great MCAT (average in PS, way above average in VR and Bio). Sailed right in! I also had excellent letters and EC's.

During file reviews it was all about my MCAT, less about my GPA.

To the OP, nail that MCAT and apply early, you'll probably do fine.
