You have a really low MCAT. I would do only DO and MAYBE some state MD schools if you have a state school that has a lower median MCAT score. You should post or be moved to the WAMC form to get specific schools. If you take this year off and work on your MCAT (510+), I think you'll have such a better chance.

agreed. You would get into a DO for sure. less than decent chance for MD. If you want the MD, take a year off and kill the mcat.

I'm not sure if I would say "for sure", but you being an athlete is impressive with your GPA. If I were you, I'd retake the MCAT for MD, because you are shooting down your chances for MD schools. Be humble during your interviews and be mature about why you received a low score for your MCAT

I got a 498 MCAT, 3.7 sgpa, worked for the NIH and the rest of my EC's are very good, shadowing 300+ hr, I'm AA and a D1 football player, I will have probably the best LOR's (ones a president of a univ). Home State North Carolina. BTW i have almost everything done to submit

That 498 MCAT is going to be rough on your app. Loads of people have a good GPA, ECs, and recs. It matters more what is stated in the letter than who it is from. But a 498 puts you in a rough patch - DO and state MD as others have stated.

if u aren't URM none of em

EDIT: just saw AA, apply to ur in states

Unfortunately, as everyone else has said, a 498 is going to hurt you. However, as an URM I would highly recommend applying to Meharry, Howard and Morehouse (and maybe Charles R. Drew; although I don't know much about that school) as these are HBCU's and your 498 is actually within a reasonable range of their average. A good in-state school to apply to also may be Brody SOM. There may be more MD's that could be within reach but these are all I know of.

However, a smart move would be to also apply DO.

Good luck and apply as early as possible if you are set on applying this cycle!

Nah DO for sure. If OP applies to 20 DO schools and has a compelling/comprehensive application, he will get in guaranteed to at least TWO.

You could try these MD schools with your current stats:
East Carolina
UNC (reach- but it is one of your state schools)
Howard
Meharry
Morehouse
Oakland Beaumont
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Creighton
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson

i think I'm gonna try just ecu, its my in state (they don't

I really do believe that everything else on my app is competitive, so do you think I should try these schools or just retake it. I think I have a fair shot at ECU. Not one OOS applicant was accepted
Yes, apply to all these schools. You can study to retake the MCAT but do not retake until your practice scores are all consistently over 505

I wanna do MD, haven't shadowed a DO and I don't mind taking a year off bc i know i can get that score up...but do you think i should try for MD programs and if don't get in retake it?
Apply for MD schools this cycle if you have the $$$ for it, and prepare to retake the MCAT in case you need to reapply. Good luck!
