What MPHs programs are still available to apply to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the MSAR has MPH programs in it??

no but it has contacts for MD/MPH programs.

you can contact those ppl and ask them if they take BSc grads into their MPH program and if they're still looking for students.. might be useful.

I think if you want to get into an MD program. It might help to do an MPH at a university that has an MD/MPH program....

yeah...i'm going to try to do that with my state school. i'm waitlisted for the MD program right now...going to call tomorrow to see if they are still accepting apps for MPH. I looked all over their site and couldn't find a deadline...so I think they are.

thanks! is there anywhere that lists average GPAs or anything like that for admissions into specific MPH programs?

No prob👍

I don't know of any MSAR-like book or site for MPH programs. If you haven't already, check out the MPH forum on SDN and see if anyone there knows... Good luck

Mount Sinai is rolling admissions so you can still apply there. Dartmouth's deadline is May 15. I think Brown's deadline is May 31st. Hope that helps and good luck!

hey you guys...but wait a sec! you say these are rolling admissions...is this like with med school that applying AT the deadline is murder and no chance of getting in? 😡

how competitive is MPH admissions?

I have a 3.70 CGPA, 3.60 SGPA, and 27R (8, 10, 9) MCAT....

Most MPH programs will require a GRE score, at least from the good programs I've glanced over. Look at the MPH forums for better advice.

nope, not true!

but anyways, I wouldn't move far from home just for an MPH program. I'd only go to one that is reasonably close to my family. I'd venture out far for med school, not MPH, though. this is just something to do for this next year.

theres nothing stopping you from applying but just broadly going for programs that are still open isn't the best way to go IMO.

Do you have specific intentions/reasons for getting an MPH? USC, Sinai, Dartmouth, and Brown are ALL over the map and none are really strong in any one particular discipline (or known in public health circles for that matter). Dartmouth's program is almost brand-new i think....

I live in the midwest. I'm not moving to a coast for an MPH program for 1 year.

I just read on my state school's site that March 31st was the deadline. Ughhh 🙁. oh well, still gonna call tomorrow and see if they'll let it slide. I doubt it. 🙁

alright let me expand on my earlier comment which was in fact serious....

an MPH program is only worthwhile if you are truly interested in public health and will be getting experience. While you can just take the classes and get the degree it isn't particularly useful without any experience. also it's important to go to a strong program so you can have good opportunities while you're there. Unfortunately while most strong programs (JHU/Harvard) require 2 years of experience some don't...however those are 2-year programs. Just taking classes and getting an MPH won't impress anyone on the med school adcom or beyond. Save yourself the money and go get a job during your year off and by all means retake the MCAT! Getting an MPH shouldn't be one of those things that you just do to kill time while reapplying.

agree completely.....MPH programs are filled with people that WANT to be there and most certainly aren't doing it to pass the time. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into...

yeah, I did an internship last semester that was actually supposed to be for community health majors and started getting really into public health. that's why I'm interested. I don't know for a fact that I would use the MPH later, but it's a possibility. It could help me get a job if I decide to work for the CDC or something.

oh and I'm definitely retaking the MCAT. May 2nd. Been getting 35s on practice tests this time compared to high 20s last year. 👍

eh, no to Brown. they only accept MCAT scores if you have an MD already. weak...haha
