Too bad because I'm planning on coming up with one myself. :meanie:

But as for the original question my two favorite singers are Celine Dion and Josh Groban. I also love Jim Brickman (piano) and Kenny G and contemporary Christian music.

Do you guys have some good study music suggestions? Although I enjoy classical, I also like OSTs and popular piano along the lines of Yiruma. Basically, any suggestions for good instrumentals?

My favorite bands:

- Nickelback
- Chumbawamba
- Hanson
- William Shatner
- John Tesh
- Yanni
- 3 Doors Down
- 3 Days Grace
- Anything else with the number 3
- Hinder

Chris Botti

TT, does that include 311 and Three Six Mafia?

And thanks DiverDoc for the suggestion 🙂

well...i dont know if im allowed to post in these threads since im not accepted anywhere.
but WHEN i get into med school--im going to bring a grand piano and practice really loudly in the middle of the night, often.

I brought Alter Bridge. They are 3 of the 4 members formally of Creed, minus scott stapp. They are much better now, IMO, a bit more aggressive and rocky than Creed was, and Mark Tremonti, lead guitarist, has been let loose with this band and he is just freaking awesome. I know about the stigma Creed had (eventho I really liked them), but I HIGHLY recommend you guys to check Alter Bridge out, you won't be disappointed.

Another awesome band I brought to DCOM, ok discovered while here but people haven't heard of them, is Sixx AM. This is a band put together by Nikki Sixx, bassist of Motley Crue. Nikki wrote a book that was basically his diary he kept in the mid-80's when Motley was HUGE and he had an even bigger heroin problem. Basically, the album is a soundtrack to the book, both called The Heroin Diaries, and each song tells about his journey thru his addiction and getting clean. It is an awesome, awesome album and is a much different sounding album than anything Motley has done. It is really well put together and is one of the best rock albums I've ever heard....same with the new Alter Bridge album, Blackbird.

Those are my 2 biggies right now.....check them out on youtube.

Well, most of those bands are pretty small indie bands that are mostly only popular in the hipster circles. Take Los Campesinos! for example, they are a twee-core band from the UK...I think that most people know them now 'cause they read pitchfork or some other music blog.

Also, most of these bands sell out most major cities. I had to fight to get Tegan and Sara tickets which were a good $60 😱

BEST BAND EVER.

That's awesome!!!! :hardy: I'm jealous.

Had to comment because I ADORE the Loveless album 😀

For me, it is going to be a very strange mix ranging from Amon Tobin to Handsome Boy Modeling School to Flogging Molly to Duke Ellington....lol

your concept of irony and jokes is lost when you realize chumbawamba was more that just that one song. Older chumbawamba is fantastic.

Do you really have Billy Joel "uptown girls" on there?

And is that George Michael I see??

TT? is there something you need to share with the group?
Yes, actually there is. I've been holding back because this is kind of personal, but here it goes...

I'm ****ing awesome.

Lupe fiasco, Biggie, Pac, Audioslave, Stone temple pilots, velvet revolver, Immortal Technique, Incubus, Cassidy, Soundgarden, NFL Films music and the list goes on.

I've actually been thinking about this alot lately.

I have a small problem with music. It was my LIFE prior to wanting to go to med school. I have a really hard time disconnecting myself from it if it's on. At the same time, I find it can help me study...if it's the right music.

My goal right now is to find music that I can listen to while studying without it distracting me. Most pop music hasn't worked...I'm gonna try jazz this week...Miles Davis.

More on topic: I'm bringing my entire iTunes library with me to med school. I just won't be able to listen to much of it. However, it's around 80-100GB of all kinds of stuff.

Quick favs:

Aerosmith
Alice In Chains
Brad Paisley
Clapton
The Cure
Counting Crows
Daughtry
Dragonforce
Earth to Andy
Filter
Garbage
Garth Brooks
Hum
Incubus
Jimi Hendrix
Killswitch Engage
Led Zep

Smashing Pumpkins (I have almost everything they've ever done, including live shows...huge fan).

Stars - Thanks countthestars
Barenaked Ladies
SMASHING PUMPKINS
Fleetwood Mac
Vanessa Carlton
Coldplay
Jenny Owen Youngs
Peter Gabrial - In your Eyes
Simon & Garfunkel
NELLIE - HOT IN HERRREEEE!!!!
Beyonce - Ring the Alarm!!! (That's the hottest song ever - I put it on when I'm mad)
Lifehouse - Their new song "From Where you are"

Counting Crows - (Anything but my fav is OMAHA)

"August and Everything After" and "Hard Candy" are spectacular albums. The new one is kinda lame...

Tori Amos - She's starting to s*ck now, tho...okay she's been s*cking....

Scarlett's Walk was her pinnacle. She's been on a divebomb since then. I saw her live once, and she was pretty good. Her bass player is AWESOME.

SMASHING PUMPKINS

Yes. They are the greatest band ever. Anyone who doesn't think this hasn't listened to enough pumpkins. Best drummer in rock history, amazing lyrics and Billy has been singing MUCH better (read: less nasally) since 1999. Well recorded live shows are spectacular (Atlanta 1999, Copenhagen 2000)

NELLIE - HOT IN HERRREEEE!!!!

I was with you until now.😀

all my dave matthews will be making the trip to school with me 😎

I went to a party at Leroi's (the sax player's) house once...There were MOUNTAINS of coke (not the soda!) on every table in the place...

Carter and Boyd are great guys though. Carter came to one of my concerts (back when I was still just a drummer) and told me, "That's some serious s--t you're playing in there." I couldn't speak for about an hour. 😀

That's crazy Omashu, Omaha is my favorite too. It's my main song on my Osteobook page. Which, by the way, I had tons of trouble trying to download songs on there and just gave up. I may try again this summer. I am not a big Smashing Pumpkins fan. My first boyfriend and I got together over a shared love of Siamese Dream  but I kind of gave up on them after Mellon Collie.

My favorite bands, including Counting Crows, have to be Sublime, Blue October, Rancid, Buckcherry, Candlebox, Metallica, Everclear, Cake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, Guns 'n Roses, Pat Benatar, Stone Temple Pilots, and lots of others I'm sure I'm not thinking of right now. I also have a thing for 70s rock like Meatloaf, Heart, and Jethro Tull 😍. Weird, I know.

Yo....that's weird....T-Funk.....🙂

About smashing pumpkins....that's funny too ...becuase when my husband and I got married... When they introduced us as a married couple at our reception ...we requested they play "tonight, tonight".

Meat Loaf.....umm eww. 😉

Awww...that's my wife and I's song too. It was our last dance at our wedding!😍

REALLY? Okay...now this is getting even weirder....

When I get married, our song will be "Big Pimpin" by Jay Z.

I saw The Smashing Pumpkins in the fall and they still put on a great show (even with the new ppl minus James and D'arcy). Their new album is ok, but it was pure bliss when they played stuff from Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. I was super happy when they played "Cherub Rock" and "Disarm" in the encore.

siamese dream is one of the best albums of the 90's. I saw them last year, (and a slew of times before that) and they played "starla". But I heard on the fall tour they played "set the ray to jerry"

at least 4 complete sets of the chopin piano repertoire, all rachmaninoff/tchaikovsky/chopin/beethoven/liszt/saint saens/brahms violin/piano/cello concerti, i cant even think of everything. i have about 7 recordings of the full beethoven symphonies, schumann/schubert/vivaldi complete chamber music, all of the late beethoven string chamber music, lots of glenn gould, richter, rubenstein, horowitz, ashkenazy, mutter, cliburn, kissin, dvorak, and about 60-70 additional GB of classical.
