This is my first post. I've been following SDN for a few months now and I truly hope you guys can guide me with what to do next. I graduated my BA in Biology of '09. My grades were a disaster, I graduated with 3.2 GPA and 2.75 (sGPA).

Should I retake some of the prereqs I didn't do too well in (Bio 1 & 11 and Physics 1)?

These are my grades for my prereqs:
Bio 1:C
Bio 2: C-
Gen. Chem 1: B
Gen. Chem 2: A
Org. Chem 1: A
O.Chem 2: A
Physics 1 Algebra based: D
Physics 2 Calc based:B-

My EC are excellent and I am a License Dental Assistant lead of a 16 operatory clinic. I don't know if that helps, especially with crappy GPA.

Please Advise, thanks.

Bio 2 and Physics 1 must be retaken. Other than that, you should look into masters/post bac and raise that science gpa up to at least a 3.0-3.2 If you can ace all those classes, I'm sure that your overall will raise to something around a 3.3-3.4. With a 3.3-3.4 overall/ 3.0-3.2 science, you will just need to get around a 20+ on the DAT in order to be in a comfortable position for dental school.

Thats how I would go about it. I think it's doable if you invest time and effort into a masters. Also look into the under 3.0 thread as it has alot of advice. I know your gpa isn't under a 3.0, but science gpa is extremely important! Good luck!🙂

If I do a masters, should I pursue science or can I do an MBA as that is something I find will benefit me in dentistry. Thanks a lot, your advise have given me some kind of hope. I'm planning to take my DAT in May and am studying now (I hope that is enough time?). I'll be taking a Kaplan course --> In January to help me score higher.

You should do something relevant to science/dentistry related. AADSAS gives you three figures: undergraduate gpa, graduate gpa, and overall (cumulative of both). If you get a 4.0 in your MBA, your cumulative will raise to around a ~3.4; however, your science gpa will be a 2.75 still. A 2.75 spells trouble because schools do have automatic cutoffs which will filter you out with that science gpa.

Best way to go about is doing a masters in something science related. It kills two birds with one stone: overall AND science gpa. Plus i can imagine it will help on the DAT!

and get 23+ on DAT. If you don't, just give up ur dream. because GPA below 3.0 is just unacceptable. I can just study for 1 hour for every exam and get 3.0 GPA. Just wondering what have you been doing while you were in school. 2.7 sGPA is way too low dude.

I disagree- you don't have to have a 23+ on the DAT. There are more possible ways to get into dental school with OP's gpa- as mentioned by the other poster.

Good for you that u can study for 1 hour and get a B on test. Normal people aren't like that, though.
