For the last few years, I've been on a quest to find a writing instrument that I really like. I started using the gel ink pens reps were handing out and started gravitating that direction vs. ball point pen. Currently, I use the Pilot G2 1.0mm for notes, orders, etc. and use the Space Pen (writes upside down, under water, etc) for the anesthesia record.

G2 .05 so I can get micrographic on that beyotch!

I've written so small with that pen I've got to pause and squint on rounds to read my own writing.

Somewhere between reading vacation ideas and iphone threads I saw this. I love this forum.

i'm currently a big fan of the Pentel EnerGel 0.7mm metal tip.

Haven't found any need to write upside down...yet.

Best pen ever.

Drug rep pens with the clicky tops! Free is good since I seem to have a full turnover of my pen population about every two weeks.

It may be the "best pen ever", but it won't be yours long if you take it to the OR. That's a promise. I like the Signo too... nice that it doesn't have a cap to forget to replace, resulting in ink everywhere.

I usually use drug rep pens since I have a major problem keeping them, EXCEPT when I'm on a full-time-scrub-wearing rotation. The apex of the v-neck is genius for holding onto the pen clasp, and if it falls off it usually goes inside only to get caught by your tucked-in scrub top. It may also prove to be a handy anti-theft spot.

...thanks for the new sig...

I love my black Pilot Precise V5 but I hate how it smears and doesn't always go through on an anesthesia chart for instance.

I'm really surprised nobody has commented on the new pen15 yet!

I don't like using the gel ink pens cuz they smudge especially if liquid gets on the record. My current instrument of choice is a zebra f-301 ultra.

Whatever pen I absentmindedly steal after borrowing it from the guy who probably walked off with the pen dropped by the dude who stole the pen I lost 20 minutes ago.

Dr. Grip Center of Gravity, smoothest writing pen I've ever used. (Plus it doesn't smear like a pen15)

anyone go for a little bling in the OR..

Not the best writing tool. It smears.

The only complaints I have about the pen15 is the nurses keep trying to steal mine AND they only seem to come in one color ink.

I've heard rumors of red, and even this strange green, ink but have as of yet not been able to procure them, no matter how hard I try.

I've heard others complain that the ink runs out too quickly, and often takes hours, or even days to replace it.

Zebra F-301 x 10 years.

But I may want to try out a .5 or .35 G2

its actually a .38, not a .35... and it really isn't as good as the 0.5, because often you will try to write, and no ink will come out.

i've been using a G2 0.5 exclusively, since med school, and i've probably gone through a hundred or so because i constantly lose pens. there are 4-5 of us in my residency program who use only this pen... we have boxes stashed across the hospital in case we ever run out.

i'm such a pen snob. 🙄

The G-2 0.5 is good, and I agree the 0.38 is not. However, if you are interested in a finer point you should check out the Uni-Ball Signo RT 0.38 I posted above. It's very smooth despite the size.

if you were really good, you'd talk your admin assistants into ordering it as the department pen... we have a selection in our office just for this purpose 😀

black pilot precise v7 RT needle-point clicky-top

will actually go looking for this pen, as opposed to in the past when it was "what do they have here that has ink in it"

I use the Mont Blanc Meisterstuck Classique Ballpoint Pen164 and I love it. However, I doubt I am going to bring it to the hospital with me.. but then again it's monogramed so maybe i will. But non the less it's an excellent pen and the ink cartiridge lasts at least twice as long as anyother pen I've used.

use the Space Pen (writes upside down, under water, etc)
I thought I was the only one who used those-seriously, I get funny looks when people ask what sort of pen I am using and I tell them "the space pen! It works under water, upside down..."

PS: Hi RJ!

anyone know what the lialda drug rep pen is . its lime green and its writes like a dream. I thought i was a pilot.. but its not.. Then i thought it was the pentel energel then someone told me its a uniball? does anyone know?

Hey Orthonut.. so you're interested in Gas too?

my friend uses the space pen all the time.. it's a great pocket pen because it's so small you just put it in your pocket and you don't even know it's there, plus it's pretty stylish..

Lots of people keep trying to talk our department into using my pen15 as the department pen. I keep worrying it won't stand up to all the hype, but so far everyone that has used it has been a big fan. Perhaps I should put in my vote too.
