What PT schools accept "C-" prerequisites?

Honest question, I'm sure there aren't many, but I'm not able to retake Anatomy I & II again, so I need to go ahead and stick with my scores. I attend a state university with a notoriously difficult science department, and after my second time taking Anatomy 1 I STILL only managed to get a C-. And I'm currently taking Anatomy 2 and by the looks of it, I'll most likely earn a grade in the C range as well.

What PT schools accept "C-" scores or are lenient about these prereq grades? Assuming that my GPA is over a 3.0, I nail the GREs, get plenty of volunteer experience, do I still stand a chance in any school?

I don't know of any. I would be surprised if there is any school that accept a C- in any pre-requisite, much less A&P. Can't you retake it at your local CC?

Honestly, it's becoming more and more competitive and expensive to apply. Take some time and take them over at a community college so you will have competitive stats!

There are some schools that don't look at specific prerequisite grades. They just want the overall gpa for all of your prerequisites to be a 3.0. And there are some others as well.


On a side note, one thing that I will say about the situation is that a C- in Anatomy is really not a good thing. Anatomy is a very very important part of the PT process and of PT school. I go to a school that is known for a bit of grade deflation, so I can sympathize but you just have to work around it. I don't think any PT school is going to be thrilled to see a C- in Anatomy.

Yes, I realize having a C- in Anatomy is not good.

I can always retake it....again at a community college, and planning on getting an A. Will I still even stand a chance at admissions even though I've performed poorly the first two times I've taken it? Or will they reject me because of how many times I had to take it?

Arggghhh this is so frustrating. I sometimes wish I would've taken these courses at an easier college...

May I ask why you're performing subpar on your second attempt? I would get nothing less than a B+ in your situation. Start meeting with professors, tutors, etc. and figure things out now because PT school gross anatomy is the wrong place to do so.

Consider that getting an acceptable grade in your prereqs is only the beginning.
Should you be accepted, you'll have to take anatomy again, and the course will include five times the information. Muscles, bones, attachments, insertions, innervations, arterial and blood supplies for every inch of the body. And that's one class. Then you'll take physiology, kinesiology, modalities, etc, at the same time. It is way harder once you get accepted.

Being a physical therapist requires that you know the human anatomy better than most doctors. In fact, in our program, the second year DPTs TA for the first year med students. You might take a moment to consider whether physical therapy is the right career for you. Are you falling short in Anatomy because of the material? Study habits? Outside commitments? Familial situations?

There are many factors to consider. But also understand that there are many, many candidates per school, per year. They will all have either A's or B's on their transcripts for Anatomy, the most important prerequisite course for PT school. If you want to be competitive, you must have either an A or B.

Perhaps contact your anatomy department and see if they have tutors that you might use. Maybe they have remedial courses?
