I'm meeting a DO physician later and I was wondering if anyone have suggestions on what I should ask him. I have a general idea in mind but would love some more input

Thx a bunch

I always ask about cup size first. It just gets that whole issue over with early.

Are DO's really just MD+?
MD vs DO
Can a DO be "insert specialty"

Seriously, just start a conversation. Ask what you think is distinct about DO compared to MD, maybe ask what Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine actually is...

The DO I shadowed was upfront and said DO is a great alternative to MD if I don't make it and that he had no regrets and is exactly where he would've ended up if he were MD.

It is what it is.

When I shadowed a DO, it was my first time shadowing so most of my questions were about medicine in general.

OMM questions would be good, like how often do you use it, how do you feel about it, etc

i thought the question was outrageous enough that it was obvious but maybe i should have put the smiley in anyways! sorry!! 😳

Sorry, as a woman that question would really irk me. Just had too many bad things and nasty comments along this journey. I think a more pertinant question would be "do you have a family and do you feel you have enough time to be with them?"

What's the deal with that Complex everyone keeps complaining about?
If I get a low Complex, can I still _______?
What was your USMLE score?

Yeah, comparing cup size would probably be a better start

thanks for everyone's response. The DO I met with specialized in OMM so it was pretty interesting. He was really helpful and agreed to write me an LOR which is a big relief because I been so stressed about getting one.

wait he just wrote you a letter after a visit? Or did you shadow him briefly?

I too met with a DO who specializes in OMM in the Bay Area. He doesn't offer shadowing, but we spoke for a while and then he performed a treatment on me. I thought it was a very useful experience, and he agreed to write a letter which is great. Also shadowing a DO in a hospital, so that is a different and great type of experience.

I had an MD faculty member at an interview say this. I chuckled on the inside.

I'm pretty sure its the same physician because that is what he usually does and there isn't too many OMM specialist in the Bay Area. Its really cool that your shadowing a DO in a hospital, I always thought it was harder to shadow a physician in hospitals because of more regulations. All the shadowing I've done has been at a clinic.

The exam is COMLEX. the DO board exam
It was a joke related to the other ignorant threads calling it the COMPLEX. I guess that you don't get to swap jokes with anyone as an attending anymore (in Alaska, right?). I've had to take them to graduate from medical school and afterwards, so I assure you that I know what the COMLEX is.

I'm still cool with comparing cup sizes.

I got the joke. Some people just don't have a sense of humor at all. 😉 🙄

Sorry, my humor has been minimal lately. Had a hard week at work with bitchy, ungrateful patients who want that magic fix me pill. Not in Alaska anymore. Currently in Orgeon.
