Ok, here's the situation. I've already submitted AMCAS, however, i'm thinking about applying to maybe 5 or 6 more schools, because i didnt' include many top schools, because i was an august mcater and didn't want to take a chance of not getting in, so i applied to many middle and lower tier schools........

should i add any more schools and which ones, if so. here's my info

amcas gpa = 4.00 (however, from a 4th tier private school, so that hurts)

mcat = 10V, 14P, 13B

got great LORs from profs i've know for atleat 2 years

research 2 years,...TA for 2nd year, volunteer nursing home for 3 years, and president of a couple of clubs...

that's just a quick view of my file, should I add any top schools, or is it too late?.....also, i'm graduating in 3 yrs with a bio degree and i've heard that top schools want peopel who have been in college for 4 years, not 3.......

Thanks so for the help......you guys are great!

Nero

not to osund mean but you are like the typical guy that makes a crappy doc.. obviously if your odne bio in 3 years all you have done is study.. probably no social skills.. etc etc. i would go into research if i was you.. away from people

You're screwed if you are only graduating in three years. The Adcoms hate that!! Just make sure you have applied to Finch, Drexel, Penn State, and all of the Caribean schools.

i dont appreciate yoru statement, you dont know me.....for your info, yeah i do study my a$$ off, but i also TA, i'm also president of 2 clubs, i volunteer 10 hrs a week at a nursing home, do research, and tutor 10 people and yes i do have a life, have a g/f, and yes i do go out and party on friday and saturdays , and dont sit and study all night long, just because somebody works their butt off to finish early, you shouldnt' judge.....i studied all summer with a full load, TAed and studied for the MCAT, and tutored chem..........i've worked hard to get where i am and i'm working hard to get into med school, cause i know i'll be a damn good doctor and i can take CARE of people.....so if you dont have anything good to contribute, dont respond..........................

to the 2nd poster, were you serious?.....i've applied to some of those schools, is it really that bad?...thanks

nero

everyone's harrassing you...the vibe is coming from the AA thread's direction 🙂...anyway, go for it and add some top schools...graduating in three years isn't a curse and you have awesome stats. Give it a shot--your rocked the mcat and IMHO, u have a great shot--add those schools now!

OK..I'll switch on the serious mode for a second. For all your protestations to the contrary, you come off as completely socially inept. If you really have a 4.0 and 37P and masturbatory list of ECs, and you still can't figure out for yourself what schools to apply to, then you are really an idiot despite your scores. If you can do that well, surely you can consult some guidebooks or websites and figure out what schools you are competitive at.

In addition, you displayed no social sensitivity by listing a resume that most people on this board would kill for and have worked very hard to accomplish half of what you have, and then to have you come on this board and ask a ridiculous question that demonstrates no self-initiative, self-reliance, or understanding the way the admission process works.

Then you top of your remarkable demonstration of naivete by not being able to parse my mocking sarcasm of your post, and taking it seriously.

God I hope you are just joking in all of this. If not, I wish you the best of luck. (You''re patients will need it.)

if it makes you feel any better im graduating in 2 and half years, my resume looks about like yours, TA'd, co-authored a couple papers, etc. I would add the schools, its not too late.

Cabruen will u be my doctor 🙂 hahaha im with u on this one

trust me, i know this process very very well, i've researched it for a long time...the reason i asked was this.......i'm from a 4th tier school and i'm wondering if that is goign to hold me back, because a friend of mine had similar stats from my school and was rejected by all top twentys, the only thing we can think of is because of my undergrad's reputation..........and because i've heard from many many applicatns that graduating in three years is a bad thing for the top schools.....................i was hesistant to post this, because i did not want to make it seem liek i'm an idiot and arrogant, i was actually looking for some suggestiosn because of the undergrad i went to................

lesson for the social inept: try posting this next time
......
Hey this forum has been great and i had a question for you. I ended up getting some really great mcat scores which im siked about and i have decided i want to apply to some top schools now. My problem is that i am at a tier 4 school and im graduating in three years. I have heard this could be aproblem with adcoms, what do you guys think.. um try that next time

i'd like to apologize to everybody for being insensitive......i shoudlnt' have posted what i did and am truly sorry....i agree that by just lookign at what i posted, i come off as a typical "gunner" who competes with everybody adn studies 24/7........i would think the same if i saw soemone post it the way i did, i didnt mena to be arrogant, adn truly apologize..........

good luck to those who are applying..

guys,
lighten up! nero was not instigating--he has enough posts on SDN to be considered a 'regular.' We're all worried in this process--people with mediocre stats alongside people with awesome stats--give him a break. we're all concerned until we get an acceptance.

yo sorry nero, no need to be a dick to ya. Bottom line is you have 99th percenitle stats, best possible ECs and Letters.. you are defintly getting in somewhere good.. Top 5 schools are weird.. u may or may not get in them. but your getting in somehwere amazing no doubt. Sorry your monsther mcat score got me as i had just posted my frustation with not being able to break and a11 in a section while you had a 14 and 13!!!! damnit! Hey sorry for being a dick.. Bets of luck i KNOW ur in somehwere amainzg!!!!! sorry dude

I apologize for being too harsh. I have no doubt you will no excel at any medicla school that you wish to attend. Best of luck.

hey,

back up off nero...He has a legit question, so answer it. I smell jealousy, and I think that is worse than someone bragging.

nero, add some schools....add however many you please..you'll do great 🙂

Guys, re-read the orginal post, and see if you think nero was REALLY being a dick, or if he was just asking an honest question. I think it is the latter. First of all, just because someone is gifted and lucky enough to have good stats does not give us teh right to bash him/her and assume he/she is an arrogant gunner. Second of all, if he really was arrogant, don't you think he would have submitted his app to top schools in the first place, instead of only sending it to lower tier schools and waiting for him MCAT score? Obviously, he did much better on the test than he expected, thank God, and he now realizes he doesn't have to worry about being rejected just because a school is on tier one.

I just don't get it. In sports, acting, music, any possible profession I can think of, you get praise and compliments if you are particularly good at what you do. Yet, in academics, it is the opposite - the top performers get flamed and trashed, sometimes for no good reason.

Moral: the point of having SDN is so we can help out fellow applicants, not drag them to the ground. Helping is also kinda key to the profession we want to go into. So why don't we just help Nero out?

nero, add the top 20 schools that you would like to go to. The more passion you show for a school, the better your chances -- which are already quite good with those awesome stats!! 🙂 Add every damn school you think you'd like to go to!!! And CONGRATS on rocking the MCAT after rocking undergrad like you did!!!! 😀 😎 🙂 😎 😀

hey nero,
congrats on such great stats. i would apply to those top schools. i mean your mcat score shows that academic rep isnt everything. a 37 on mcat is crazy plus a 4.0 which may have been looked down upon if you got like a 25, but with the 37 you are legit candidate at any med school. good luck!

nero,
I too think that you'll do well in the admissions game. I'd give my left nut for your MCAT scores....and my right nut for you GPA. So go ahead and apply to those 5-6 more schools. Like my advisor keeps telling me, "you'll never get into a school you don't apply to."

nero, by all means, with those stats drop some apps to the harvards, upenns, washUs, etc. some of the top schools aren't on rolling admit, so you wont necessarily be hurt by being an august mcater

i understand it was an honest question and no need to flame on him, but from the original post, it definitely gets a "no ****, sherlock" type of answer  good luck man, as long as you write good essays and interview well i'm sure we'll be seeing you in a top 5 school 🙂

oh my lord. its 4am sunday morning. i come back from partying, and the very first thing i do when i get back in is check SDN?!?! I NEED HELP!!!!!!!! 🙁

must.....beat.....addiction

Maturity? Experience? Not sure...but I have noticed that it's harder to get into med school if you graduate early. Probably depends on the school...

congrats on your hard work for a 4.0 and a 37 on the MCAT. i was under the impression that their was nothing wrong with saying that on their when you have a legitimate question to ask, like having these stats from a 4th tier school. one gets the feeling that the top schools do discriminate against students from "no name" universities when one sees where their students have come from, but it is difficult to say if this is because these students have better apps (mcat, experiences) or if they are purposefully taking them over a student from a less known school. i tend to think that they discriminate a bit. But i totally think that you should pick any top school you wish and add it to your list. you are numberically qualified for any place, so if they want to reject you for your school that is out of you control.

Sorry Nero - but you gotta admit that some of those replies were pretty good. 😀

To answer your original question, I would DEFINITELY add more schools ! You have great stats and like someone else said, if the school doesn't have rolling admissions, then you won't be hurt too bad by applying late.

Best of luck and take care ! 😎
