What school will give me better residency options? Georgetown or UCLA?

So, I have had a few people tell me that where you match for residency depends almost exclusively on your board scores and not where you went to school, except if you went to IVY leagues. I am from the east coast, and would like to do a some sort of surgical residency on the east coast. Right now I am accepted into Georgetown, and on the waitlist at UCLA. My debate is if I get off the waitlist at UCLA, do you think that UCLA's reputation would be that much more of an advantage over Georgetown?

Georgetown had some great matches this year. UCLA boasts that 90% of their students get their top 3 residency choices, however, most students tend to stay at UCLA or some other California affiliated program.

Do you guys think that students coming out of UCLA have a better choice of matching on the East Coast than Georgetown?

please keep in mind, that socially, I would love both schools so I do not have a stronger feeling as to where I would be happiest. I just wanted everyone's opinion on whether the UCLA name would do me better than the Georgetown name, or do residency programs care more about your board scores.

Just do well and get good board (bored is more apt) scores. Wherever you see yourself doing that - go there. Don't think about surgical residencies today. Think about anatomy and biochemistry and all the other fun MS1 classes that lie ahead.

UCLA is a much more prestigious school than Georgetown. I would think that UCLA students would get better shots at certain residency spots.

You should post this on the Allopathic or Post-Grad board though. those people would have more informed responses.

If you are a CA resident, why would you go with Georgetown? UCLA is a more prestigious school, in a better area, and it is way cheaper.
