What schools are you applying to for Fall 2009?

For those of you applying Early Decision, do you have phenomenal stats or what? I was thinking of applying early decision, but I don't want to be rejected or deferred to regular admission, only to have a later start in applying to other schools. I'm debating whether to apply ED to VCU or just apply to VCU + other schools regular decision =\

I am having the same problem. I keep going back and forth about applying ED for UMB. I truly feel that it's the school for me, but they have a minimum 80 PCAT composite requirement and I haven't done well on the PCAT in the past. I am afraid I might bomb it again and get rejected for not meeting their PCAT requirement. I would then feel stupid for not using that time wisely to apply to other schools that are not as strict on the PCAT scores. UGGHHH...it's absolutely driving me insane!!

I trying rationalizing the whole situation by thinking, well since ED applicants will know their status by I think 10/24 or 10/26, we should have money prepared for additional schools to add to pharmcas and for supplementals. We should also do the supplementals apps ASAP. For instance, one of my back up schools is UNC and their apps is due 11/1. If I don't get accepted by UMB, the minute I find out, I'm going to add all my back up list schools to pharmcas, do the supplementals (esp. for UNC) and have it priority mailed just so it can make the 11/1 deadline. Just try to think ahead and prepare for the worst if you decide to go through with ED. Good luck!

BTW my stats:
~3.5 Overall GPA/~3.3 sciGPA/4.0 mathGPA (I will know my exact GPAs when PharmCAS calculates and averages my GPAs from the different schools I attended)
1.5 years working as a pharm tech at a pharmacy
administrative intern and summer student researcher while in undergrad
extracurriculars: shadowed two hospital pharmacists, volunteered at a nursing home and children's hospital, made sandwiches for the homeless, used to be a Eucharistic minister for my parish

It scares me too, but I have long accepted that there is a good chance I may never attend Cali schools. I can tell I am nowhere near as good and outstanding of a candidate as some of you amazing guys here. I am certainly not extraordinary enough to attend any of the big-name schools like UCSF and UCSD, so was I to get in somewhere in CA it would probably be one of those unaccredited schools. 🙁 I am going to try my hardest to convey how I feel about pharmacy and why I am a well-rounded applicant this year. I have also landed a killer job as a mentor that will definitely boost up my application. Hopefully the admissions committee will see that I have done a lot of soul searching this past year, I've matured and grown up. I am no longer the same careless Cheburashka I was a year ago. :luck:

Noticed your sig. Pretty soon the only retail therapy you'll be doing will be counseling patients at a CVS.

(just thought that it'd be a good joke)

Hahaha, that's great joke. I only wish you were right.

Holly molly, this is my post # 799. I am officially an SDN veteran.

1. Howard U. (Alumna 2003!)
2. LECOM - Bradenton
3. NOVA
4. UF (In-State Tuition 🙂)

UMB, Shenandoah, Jefferson

Was thinking about applying to Temple only because everyone I work with went there, but I missed the whole calc-based physics thing. I don't know if I want to go to school in the ghetto anyway.

That's what I heard about the neighborhood that Temple is in. A friend of mines got accepted there, but once she got to the neighborhood, she decided not to go there.

So far:

1. UF
2. Mercer

i may apply to a few schools in Texas...i LOVE Texas (c:

1. VCU
2. Appalachia
3. Howard
4. Belmont

UOP. That's it.

It's my top choice. And since other schools have more pre-req courses I'm not going to be able to apply to those until next year. I wasn't going to apply anywhere this year but I thought why not give it a shot and apply to my top choice this year... it'll be good practice lol 🙂

Good luck everyone :luck:

Exactly my situation. Only University of Florida for 2009. Who knows?

early decision UMB

if that fails:
1. UMB regular 🙂
2. UNC-Chapel Hill
3. Pitt
4. Washington

In order of preference:
1. Sullivan
2. UK
3. Samford
4. Mercer
5. LECOM Bradenton

2. MWU-Glendale
3. USN
4. Belmont
5. Lipscomb

One school this year: USN. The whole idea that I can replace my entire GPA from a university with one from a CC seems bizarre to me but if those are the rules then I can work with that. I'd really rather go to Midwestern-CPG but I'm not ready to apply this year. If I get accepted to USN then I'm going with the bird in the hand rule.

I read last year how everyone was stressed out about classes, PCAT, and applying at the same time...man you guys weren't kidding. I am stressed to the max!! Actually I am having anxiety about being accepted and I think that is most of it.

Cumulative GPA: 3.88
Math+Science GPA: 3.91

DEAR GOD, ummmm.....I have no chance now........

Whaaat? What are you talking about? I am still very unsure about getting in. It's a very stressful process >< and I'm sure you will be fine as well! 👍 Good luck to you!!

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone here knows a link that has the comparison in GPA/PCAT scores/#accepted/tuitions/.... among different pharmacy schools? Thanks in advance!

I just want to say to everyone: don't underestimate UNM CoP! It's a pretty good school. but it's the only school I am applying to for now.... they are building new facilities that will house patient care labs and a mock-pharmacy
👍 👍 👍

i would like to praise pharmCAS for calculating my GPA in 4 days lol...

are you a junior? What University are you in? did you take your Pcat yet?

See my sig below...

My preference is the school that tells me, "Congratulations..."

If more than one school tells me that, I'll worry about it at that time.

applying to UCSF, UCSD, USC, Western, Touro, UOP, and USN.

Still not 100% sure if this is the final list.....

Samford
Mercer
Midwestern-Glendale
Belmont

University of Illinois-Chicago
Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville
Chicago State University

1. UNC
2. Mercer
3. Wingate
4. NOVA
5. Belmont
6. Thomas Jefferson
7. South
8. West Palm Atlantic

To many to list. I have a high GPA and I'm applying to 17 schools. Does that seem crazy? I figured the cost for PharmCAS and all the supplementals is cheaper than paying to attend a university for another year plus living expenses.

I am applying to a large number of schools too. :luck:

For all the noobies: last year there was a completely awesome thread where people listed which schools they were applying to. It allowed people to see who is applying to the same schools and maybe get to know each other a bit. 🙂 :luck:

This year I decided to take the initiative and start a similar thread for Fall 09. Since I haven't been here in a while, I hope there isn't a thread like this already started. I checked back but I am not entire sure. 😳

Schools I am applying to :

1. USC
2. UF
3. University at Buffulo
4. Idaho State University
4. University of Maryland
5. Western
6. UCSD
7. Mercer
8. University of Illinois at Chicago
9. MCPHS
10. Oregon State
11. Wayne State
12. UCSF

I am looking into applying to 4-5 additional schools, but haven't figured out specifically which ones yet. 😎

Anybody else applying to these schools ? 😍

I'm a junior for Fall 2008, then a senior for Spring 2009 if that makes any sense based on credits. I'm at Virginia Tech and yes, I took the PCAT in June.

Hi Asian guy, I am interested in MCPHS-Boston as well. Could you share some information with me? By the way, MCPHS-Boston does not require PCAT score. I talked with the counselor there just a few days ago. But they require TOEFL. Are you going to take TOEFL test?
Hmmm

1. Lecom-Erie
2. UACP
3. Sullivan
4. USN
5. MCPHS-Boston

You might consider applying to U of minnesota because the school does not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state applicants during their admissions decision. Moreover, it is one of the schools that looks at the whole applicant not just grades and PCAT scores. Check out the statistics of the admitted class: http://www.pharmacy.umn.edu/pharmd/admissions/statistics/home.html

It's my school of choice, the one I've been working these last couple of years towards. I'm focused and commited to getting accepted for Fall 2009! I can feel the butterflies already!

Someone who got accepted to pharmacy school with a PCAT composite of 19 sure makes me feel better about my not so great score.
