I was just wondering what the general consent was about what schools are notorious for hard interviews and which are slack. I know UF has very intimidating interviews while Nova is supper laid back. What are the hardest schools to interview at?

I heard that sometimes NYU grills you (depends on the interviewer) but I'll find out in 2 weeks 😀

My NYU interview was quite possibly the easiest, most laid back of my interviews. He didn't even really "ask" me anything, we just had a conversation.
But I have heard of others saying they got grilled. I guess it just depends on the interviewer.

I hear ASDOH is pretty intimidating.
I found the opposite to be true. I actually don't know anybody who has interviewed there and found it intimidating. Even the people I interviewed with didn't find it intimidating. I think that this year is very different from years past.

I've only had one interview so far, but my experience at UoP was really good. They make you feel really comfortable!

i came back from bufalo not to long ago and found their interview to be very relaxed as well.

Did they ask you anything medical or dentistry related?

A guy in my interview group came out sweating. They all said they were grilled.

I was grilled at NYU. GRILLED- but I happened to get that one interviewer on the committee who is known to grill you. I heard the rest are pretty relaxed.

They ripped my head off at Buffalo. I considered just getting up, politely thanking them, and leaving...

they say that the nyu griller always recommends ppl

Out of my 4 interviews thus far florida has been the most intimidating. I think i did well though so i dunno i have heard some pretty bad stories from UF interviewees.

If your interviewer seems critical of your responses and asks follow up questions, it may not be a bad thing. He will be your representative to the adcom and he may be grilling you for info. so that he can arm himself for what the adcom asks about you.

What do you guys mean by "grilled"?
Lots of back to back questions? Or putting your responses down?

all mine have been very chilled and laid back- i've had 5 so far...the closest one to grillin was san antonio...he shot questions at me and i answered back but didn't feel at all intimidated. Some other ppl who interviewed with me were nervous after their interview but i guess that's just not me

UF's interviews are horrible. They asked my friend "why do you want to be a dentist" 4 times in a row, and then gave him a handbook on how to score better on the DAT.

I have heard horrible things, my interview there went fairly well though. The girl before me came out crying, and you could hear the 3 interviewers laughing behind the door.

Michigan tough, UCONN easy

wow... I am glad that my UF interview wasnt exactly THAT bad... I really walked out of the room thinking I did great... But then 2 days later I had incredibly horrible doubts in my mind about my performance. They were definitely tough, but I am glad that they were. If I get any other interviews I know I will be very well prepared for almost any questions or curveballs.

I have an interview at UF next friday and after reading everyone's comments I am getting quite scared. I was just wondering if anyone can offer me any tips or questions as to what they might ask me. Thanks so much!

My interview at UF wasn't bad ... I didn't cry at all afterwards, and I can be a big baby sometimes, so that's saying a lot. Oh, and my stats aren't that great, so they could have really been mean to me. On the other hand, a friend of mine who interviewed there last year said they would not stop asking her about certain classes, and they never seemed to listen to her answers.

I've only had pitt's interview so far but it was soooo laid back!

I interviewed at NYU, Case, USC, and Maryland last year...all were pretty laid back. I bombed my Maryland interview...they didn't grill me really, but it was not as relaxed as my other interviews. (but mostly I just froze up because everyone else seemed to think the interview was easy). The others were super relaxed though.

Venita prides herself on being a "professional interviewer" or so she told me with an evil grin.

I'm sure the UF interview is intentionally made to be intimidating. I went into mine prepared to be "grilled" but what completely threw me off (and sent me off with my tail between my legs and a rejection letter) was how completely disinterested the interviewers seemed in me or my attempts at conversation. One had a cell phone go off twice, one STARED at the clock the entire time, and Dr. S told me "so, you don't really know why you want to be a dentist. In your heart, you don't know".

So I guess my best advice is don't get caught on your heels. They might be very pleasant or they might be flat-out mean. They could also seem completely apathetic and if you go in expecting one certain interview type you'll find yourself on the defensive very quickly. Just answer their questions the best way you know how and tell yourself through the whole thing that they're only partly listening to your answers -- they're really seeing how you react.

Hope that helps and doesn't freak you out any more.

Beware ASDOH. They are known to use waterboarding and geography quizzes.

Do they ask you specific questions about certain processes learned in lecture? ...I've heard it both ways...

are you interviewed by one person or MORE than one person?

I have also had friends who said their UF interviewers didn't even seem to care about their answers, so I went in preparing for the worst. I was prepared for them to either be really mean or really disinterested. Luckily, I had a good experience, but I am glad I was prepared for the worst.
