hi, I guess I kinda need to list my stats
I goto UC berkeley,
I have 3.7 overall, probably around 3.5-3.6 science GPA
I am doing a research, I haven't taken a DAT yet,
but if I ace DAT, what schools should i be considering?
I want to apply to all schools in the east coast,
Penn, columbia, Harvard, BU, Tufts, etc
also I am a Georgia resident, so definitely MCG.
Do you think I am unrealistic of choosing those big name schools?
what other schools should I apply?

I wouldnt waste my time applying to all the private eastcoast schools. your stats are good enuf to stay out west. im sure you will do nicely on the DATs if you put in the time.

Your stats are about like mine and i got into 6 of the eight schools I applied to, so I say apply wherever you want and you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

if you're a georgia resident then MCG for sure, i mean you'll save like $200k compared to the big private schools, unless money grows on trees for you!

yes i did..i made a post about it a couple of months ago..and don't ask me how or why cuz i don't know!

Great stats!! Sounds like you can go wherever you want!.

BTW USUaggie, what are the 2 schools you didn't get into? (if you don't mind me asking) because if your stats were similar I don't know why you wouldn't get in.

This might be a stupid questions but I'm just a snr in HS =). Does it really matter what school you go to because most dentist have their own office after a few years anyways? I mean if you r gnna go to dental school you might as well go to a cheap one so you'll have to pay back less.

Nebraska rejected me because I was an out of stater and I think they only have around 5 seats for non-residents so it's way competetive to get those. I shouldn't have applied there, I wouldn't even have enjoyed living there.
UOP rejected me and the only reason I can think of is my score of 19 on the PAT. I hear they want higher scores on that section and I can't really come up with any real weaknesses in my application.
I got into LLU, VCU, Case, UNLV, Nova, and Maryland.

there are lots of criterea - i.e. location, cost, facilities, specialty rates, board scores, etc. but when it comes down to it if you want to be a general dentist nobody really cares where you went and yes, it would be wise to go to the cheapest school that accepts you. Spend enough time on this site and you'll be plenty familiar with what to look for in a school. There was a poll a couple weeks ago on what was the most important factor in deciding but I'm not sure what the results were.

You are off to a great start! A 3.7/3.5 GPA is considered very high, and coming fom berkeley you should be a shoe-in. Like Gavin said, apply where you want to go--don't worry at all about where you can get in because with a good DAT everyone will accept you--especially those schools that you listed.

Basically this is very true. Especially if you are going into general practice. Better schools might give you more oportunity if you want to do something else with your degree.

That's the basic premise behind choosing a school. It can be a tad more complicated if you factor in family, weather, etc., but sometimes I think we make it far more complicated than we ought to.
