Hi,

I'm just wondering what schools I should apply to. I'm applying the 2014 cycle with a horrendous science gpa of 3.08..I still have this school year to get it up a bit. I know that I have to apply broadly, so I'll be applying to probably 15 schools or so. No disrespect to anyone in any schools, and I know I'm in absolutely no position to be picky, but I wouldn't want to go to a school like lecom. It's moderately farther from where I am, and not worth it (for me) imo to go there. What schools should I apply to? I was searching for stats of schools, and I was thinking private colleges are my best bet: Tufts, NYU, BU, Columbia (just for the hell of it -_-)...what else should I apply to? I'm referring to this list
http://predds.net/dental-school-admission-statistics/ (i also realize this is 2010)
but just want to hear opinion of people more experienced with this process. and yes. again, I know I shouldn't be picky

You have to narrow down what's important to you before you begin forming a list of schools. Is it location (you mentioned LECOM is too far)? Is it cost? Is it a particular curriculum style? Figure out what is most important to you, then narrow your list to schools that fit your criteria. Then look at Doc's spreadsheets and, of the schools you choose, find those with favorable OOS interview/acceptance percentages.

If you find you left yourself with only 5 schools after doing that, you'll need to broaden certain criteria. Expand your geographic preference, move your tuition cap a little higher, etc. Keep going with that method until you have at least 20 schools on your list.

Keep in mind some schools have strange requirements - Tufts requires a bio LoR and proof of at least 30 hours of shadowing (or something like that), Loma Linda, a "spiritual leader" LoR. I found that having the 2013 ADEA guide to dental school to reference was really useful in narrowing my list.

Good luck!

wonderful. thanks both of u guys.
