I am having a little trouble deciding which schools to apply to. I do not have a family, I am single, so I can go pretty much wherever, but this makes it harder for me to decide since there are more choices. I live in GA and am definitely applying to UGA, UNC, and UT-Austin so far, but I need to apply to more. Since rankings do not REALLY matter much in pharmacy, I just wanted to ask you people who are not limited by location how you decided which schools you wanted to go to. Was it purely the location aspect? I know that I would like to go to a medium to larger city with lots of entertainment opportunities (hehe). Likewise I don't want to end up in a really ghetto city where I am scared to leave my apartment. (no offense to anyone intended)

I would opt for the in-state school with the lowest tuition. Paying off a $120,000 student loan for going to an out of state or private school just doesn't make any sense when your in-state school can provide the education.

Remember, $100,000 to $120,000 in student loan will cost $1,200 + month..if u plan on paying it back in 10 years. That's a lot of money.

Apply to University of Texas at Austin COP! Austin is great! Good Luck 👍

I chose USC because of the football program and my gf - now my wife lived 1 mile from USC rx campus. No lie.

I totally agree with zpacksux on this. However, I was not smart enough for the University of FloriDUH 🙁

Do as I say, not as I do?

That's right..do as I say, not as I do. I declined UCSF..cuz.. No football program and I would've been 400 miles away from my gf. I applied to 2 schools.. SC and SF. Then again, getting into RX school was a joke in 1991.

😀 Though I am not particularly interested in beer or cows, Austin does sound appealing. I would love to go there but I'm out of state so it will be difficult.

utpharmdude, I hear most people live off campus, how far are apartments from the COP? Walking distance or do you have to drive? Just wondering... Is it difficult or do most people party through school?

I am also applying in state but I'm worried because I won't be taking O Chem I till the fall (though all my other prereqs are done).

Regarding housing at UT Austin, I believe most pharmacy students do live off campus because dorms are usually filled by undergraduates, mostly freshmen. There are alot of housing options near campus within walking distance, but rent cost tend to be higher when compared to areas such as Riverside or Farwest. A lot of students live in the Riverside or Farwest area which is about ten minutes busride away from campus. There are university buses (used only by students separate from public buses) services that run constantly to and from these areas. I personally prefer to stay close to campus and walk to school. Hope this helps 👍

Applying to UNC, because it's in my backyard 🙂 Have you gotten to see UNC's campus? If you have ?'s about the campus/town let me know! CH is a great place to live!

I went there when I applied there for undergrad but didn't check out the pharmacy school b/c I had decided to do engineering then. (I'm a career switcher.) What's the school like? Do people live close to campus? What is CH like?

Thanks for everyone's advice 😎

UNC is amazing! I'm starting there this fall and I am so excited. The campus is absolutely beautiful, as is the town, and there is apartments very nearby, and a great transportation system. The program has a great cirriculum and they really have a clinical focus and provide so many opportunities for you. I've checked out programs all across the country (clearly from far away 😳) and it is definetly a program I am willing to pay out of state tuition for. Check it out!

Sounds like a great school and environment. I will definitely apply there. I'm so glad they use PharmCAS (that's 1 less application to fill out!) How was your interview there?
