Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what science GPA would be the minimum to have a decent chance of getting accepted to a medical school? I really don't care where I go, anywhere will do - so post your thoughts? Thanks!

That is an impossibly difficult question.....the application process is so subjective. It all depends on your MCAT, and the cool, interesting and challenging things you may have accomplished leading up to med school. This is not med school doctrine, but if you have anything above a 3.0, an MCAT score that says you're better than 3.0 and some eye-catching EC's then you have a good chance at most schools. Sorry that's so vague and nebulous (my new word of the day), but so is applying to med school.

My best guess is that the lower your overall gpa the higher your science gpa and mcat scores have to be.

Odd question, but Ill try to answer it. An average science GPA for most med school acceptees might be 3.5-3.6, anything about a 3.7 is pretty good though. So I guess I would say a 3.5 at lowest, and a 3.6 or above to be safe. Just my 0.02 though.

It's extremely subjective. A high MCAT score can make up for a lower GPA. A high MCAT score and stellar EC's and LOR's can make up for a lower than lower GPA. A high MCAT score claiming you're a genius, stellar EC's, a LOR from the President of AMA claiming you to be a long time friend and would look favorably upon your acceptance and another LOR from the Dean of Admissions himself may make up even for a lower GPA.

Huge donations are also told to help =).

But it all depends on a number of things, remember.. a 4.0 in easy basic science courseworks might look good on paper, but how does that compare to a person with around a 3.0 science GPA who took insane courseloads and insane outside activities?
