Application DONE. Everything is turned in.

Undergrad GPA:
Science: 2.69
Non-S: 3.4
Cumm: 3.06

Graduate GPA/Post-Bacc:
Science: 4.0
Cumm: 4.0

I will be completing my Masters in Biochemistry this year as well. So I have that going for me.

DAT Scores:

1st / 2nd time
PAT 16 / 18
RC 18 / 18
QR 14 / 15
Bio 18 / 18
Orgo 17 / 19
Gen 17 / 19
TS 17 / 19
AA 17 / 18

I just took my DATs yesterday, and not happy with my scores at all. I took them knowing I wasn't prepare, which is a big mistake on my part. But, I want to retake them, which means that I'd have to do it end of November, beginning of December. What do you recommend? Should I retake them and get my scores in by February, or is it cutting WAY too close? These are the schools that I'm applying to:

VCU (dont think I have a chance)
HOW
NYU (one of my top choices)
TEMP
TUFTS
UIC (one of my top choices)
NJDS

I'd liked to hear any advice. Should I wait and see if any school will interview me? If not, apply again next year? Or should I retake the DAT in three months and try to send in my scores to the schools who's deadlines are in February and salvage any chance of starting dental school next fall?

oh yea, and i forgot to say that i'm a Virginia resident.

whats up man.....your science GPA is somewhat low as well as your cumulative. Your DAT scores are pretty solid...no low scores except for QR. I am somewhat in the same boat....i have a 3.1 science gpa, 3.4 overall and an 18/18/20 DAT with a 15 in QR.
Im also doing a masters..but in healthcare management with a 3.4. I think your 4.0 in Biochem is definately gonna shine.
As much as ppl assume that you cant get in without a 20+ dat score and a 3.4+GPA, i think we have a pretty solid chance of getting in somewhere. Im sure you can squeeze into VCU and NYU and definatley a few others as well. Just make sure your application has a few other things that may set you apart from other applicants.
If i was you i would definately try to get an interview with these stats because you might be too late if you wait til november. and if it doesnt happen this year...theres always next year.

Doesn't UIC have a small class size and take very few out-of-state applicants? I know you said you want to go there, but it seems like a waste of money. Might be better off applying to BU.

Your grad GPA is obviously great. If you can kill the DAT, you'd be good to go. If you have the money and think you can do well, I say go ahead and apply this year.

I think you have a very solid chance of getting in. For some reason, people here only get 20+ but I think some people inflate their scores. Anyway, good luck.

Yeah, I think you're fine with the new scores. Just hovering in the average area there. Your undergrad GPA is low but that 4.0 grad GPA is veeeery nice.

I was going to suggest the exact same thing. BU might be a good bet, UIC not so much..

your gpa is kinda low...but your dats have improved.

personal statement and letters-of-rec will be critical for you.

add BU and Case Western to your list. Persistance pays off.

good luck.
