Hello all!!! It's me again 🙂

I went to my dentist 3 days ago for wisdom tooth extraction, and I asked my dentist for shadowing, he said OK, and I asked him what to wear but said wear something light ... so I guess I will wear white pant and white shirt, just the same one I wore to work volunteer at the hospital, is that ok ???

Anyway, my question is, what should I do during shadowing ??? just follow him where ever he goes and just observe ????? I'm so paranoid now, don't know what I would do when I'm there hmm....

Any input would be appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Yes follow him around (try not to get in the way though 😀 ), ask questions, and interact with the staff... just relax, be yourself and have some fun!

Thanks Duh!!! But what question should I ask him ???? lol ... sowie kinda nervous so I afraid I will be stun at that time, please advise!!!!

I think it's sometimes hard to know what questions to ask, especially when you're first learning about dentistry. Don't be afraid to simply ask him to explain the procedure. It's intimidating in front of the patient, but you're not going to sound ignorant, just interested. If you notice him doing something differently than he did in a different procedure, ask why. You can also ask questions about dental school and the application process...how was it different when he did it? They like to share their experiences, too. Granted, you probably will still feel a little shell shocked and awkward, but that's pretty normal. See if there's anything you can help with, too (cleaning up, sterilization, lab work, etc). Nothing like hands-on experience!

Thanks Aggie!!!! Actually I asked him if I should bring anything with me, like note book, he laff at me and said No ... 🙂 ... Hope he won't give me a hard time hihihi ... I'm just having a feeling that just because he's my dentist so he can't said No when I asked to be shadow ... hopefully not ..

Sounds like this guy is pretty laid back and will welcome you shadowing him. I shadowed one dentist who kept handing me dental journals and asking me to read articles...then he would talk about them with me. A little practice for the RC section of the DAT, but WAY intimidating on the spot!!

Just so you know, you're overthinking this whole thing big-time.

Just go in, watch how the dentist does things, learn from what he tells you, ask questions about the things you're curious about or don't understand, help out where you can, and allow yourself to enjoy the experience. This is supposed to be a fun learning experience for you, and you're making the whole affair much more difficult than it needs to be.

yes, dentists have a great sense of humor, so they're usually really lighthearted. usually. just have fun and joke around.

I second that. Just relax, be yourself, and as long as you respect the fact that this dentist is doing you a favor, realize that this is for YOU more than anything else and enjoy it!
