i am taking my 2nd yr exams and they will be over on 14th of november and with that my anatomy, physiology and biochemistery courses will be over...then i will be having a week holidays and after that i will join my 3rd yr where i will study pharmacology, general pathology and forensic medicine..,
what do you people suggest i should study a bit of these books before joining to have a little bit aquiantance with these subjects or start up with my class....is it worthwhile to start before....(although i am planning to read Crime and Punishment in that week)...also give me advice how to enjoy that time and forget about the result....

well much reason i have started that thread is i need some enlightenment about these subjects....how much TOUGH they are going to be....(the above is just by the way but do tell me about these subjects)

Aren't you itching for some down time? Go for a road trip, go to a beach, play computer games, work out, do stuff you don't have time to do during semester and have some fun!

Do fun activities. But first of all, you may want to practice proper typing. It is very hard to read our posts. Nothing personal.

hahahaah........yes i need to improve my typing!

Otherwise you can work-out, see friends, anything that's fun to prevent getting burnt out from school. In that way you get more energy to study.

One should proofread one's own posts before criticizing those of others.

I'd advise against "pre-studying." Just enjoy your time off.

Agree with this. Most efforts to get a leg up tend to be nonproductive. If you do feel the need to be productive, (and again I don't suggest this) you tend to be better off reviewing the stuff you already completed -- anatomy and physio tend to be useful things to have a stronger handle on for boards and wards.

Well, for one there's a great difference between his post and the OP's post...rightyright? Mmhmmmm? M'kay? You fail to see the big picture.

To the OP: Don't pre-study; most of the time it does more harm than good. "Relax; take it eeee---eeeea-saaaay!" (Sorry, couldn't stop myself from writing that) Do something relaxing and fun.

Have fun. Pick up a sport. Travel a bit. Read. Watch TV. Sleep.

And for the sake of your sanity, don't study.

I don't know how your school handles it, but pharmacology can be a beast.

You will be much better off if you go into it with a well rested brain. If you try and pre-study to familiarize yourself with drugs, etc, you may do more harm than good.

This probably holds for your other classes as well. My vote is for relaxing and doing some pleasure reading during your break.

Big picture? Dude was asking about whether people thought he should pre-study, and what he got in response was criticism about his grammar, which by the way is quite obviously an ESL situation (I hope...) Smartass

I understood what he meant, but I honestly wasn't sure what the OP was talking about.

You knew what the guy was talking about, gimmie a break. If you can follow medical journals you can decipher the OP's post.

By the way, saying 'nothing personal' is a pretty big tipoff that what you're about to say can probably be taken personally. Sorta like 'no offense, but'... So if you catch yourself using a phrase like that, well, perhaps you should consider whether you're being a wee bit of a hypocrite... rightyright? MmHmmmm? M'kay?

Let me say the following:
I am grown up in a non-english speaking country where many people can't speak English.
Even though my grammar isn't perfect, I am proud of that I can type correctly. That's my point.
I could write all my messages in 1337, but noone would understand me but those that know 1337.
So going by my knowledge of English, I already had done my proofreading in my previous post.

I had a really hard time reading his post. I think that in a medical forum, the least you can do is to type like a civilised human being, not like a cave-man.

Going by his language, his English is sufficient enough for typing correctly.

And the "no personal" thing, how in the heck could it be personal when I don't know the person?
If I tell my patient that he has to change his lifestyle, am I being personal or am I giving advice?

So if you want to be taken seriously, the least you can do is to put time in your message and type correctly, M'kay?

So you missed my point completely by assuming things, smartass.

Alright everybody... let us have a vote on who had the most coherent post. Was it Peace Zealot or GodoShingo?

This is getting kind of silly and has nothing to do with the OP's post, so I won't respond to this again. We can continue the convo via PM if you'd like. My contention is that as a professional we should be helping people out regardless of their level of communication ability. To use your example of a patient encounter, if an obese diabetic non-(insert your native language)-speaking individual came to your clinic for help, would you look at them and say 'You're sick because you're fat. But first of all, go learn the local language. It's really hard to understand what you're saying to me. Now get out till you can speak properly!'? of course you wouldn't, you'd do your best to work with that person despite the language barrier. Now, it's quite nice that you've learned english well enough to have achieved some level of fluency, but you can't translate that into an assumption that everyone should have reached that level. Perhaps the OP is working on it, but simply isn't there yet. The fact is, his 'typing' was fine. Words were spelled correctly, there were spaces between words, etc. The problem he had was with grammar and syntax. A native english speaker probably would have done a better job completely drunk, hence my assumption the OP is ESL. And given that fact, he did a much better job than I likely would have if I were trying to post on a spanish, or perhaps polish, dominated message board. So, in summary, be nice to your fellow posters. You may be lying under their knife with an acute abdomen one day 🙂

Is it more like a black fly in your chardonnay, or more like a free ride when you've already paid?

...or the fact that the song "Ironic" isn't about ironies, just bummers?

Or the fact that the above fact is ironic?

I think that this is the true genius of the song 🙂

I agree.

It's like my dad always says: "There's an exception to every rule."

Then you're supposed to ask, "So what's the exception to that rule?"

So that he can reply, "There is none. And that's the exception."

Ponder on that one!

👍

Please try to get back to the OPs question. If you have comment directed towards a specific poster, then use the PM (Private Message) Function. If you disagree with a post, please comment on your disagreement professionally. Thank-you.

Sorry OP, I just realized I never actually answered your question. Your curriculum sounds like it's set up differently from what I'm used to, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But, pathology and pharmacology are both pretty enormous fields. I would expect to be working very hard during that block. That said, I would take full advantage of your break to relax, do something fun, and try to destress some. You're going to work hard once school starts back up anyway, you might as well take the opportunity for a break now 🙂

Aahh.......i am free........free...freeeee.......hurray.......three cheers for fun and sports and sleep and all that can take me away from the cruel world of medical school.......:hardy:😍:hardy:
Bye the way i am logged in after many days and the story in this thread has been twisted by 180 degrees.....is'nt it...???
the most funny thing is i am still unable to find out the grammer blunders and all that make my posts highly and unbearably difficult to read......:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:...........
now dont stick to commenting on the grammer mistakes and typing mistakes.......please!!!
tell me something innovative to do....????any ideas...

Pop some popcorn and watch a good movie. Or work out.
Go have some drinks with your friends if you are free tomorrow.
Those are just a few examples.

i was just wondering are there any young poets among medical students???if yes then just tell how the medical school affected your poetic nature.....it would be a fun to know that....or writers and people having other creative interests and hobbies can add there comments....

let me share my experience.....i have interest in poetry although i have not read a lot of poets but i have written a few for me (i write for myself just to fulfill my desire,no one else has read my writings uptill now)....that's a strange phenomenon with me that when i have a big test in front ,a lot of ideas and thoughts come to my mind and its too hard for me to shake away those thoughts and let such ideas slip out of my mind and thus remain unable to concentrate on my studies...a big reason of failure in my tests many times......
but let me tell you that's such a great experience to think about some theme and convert your thoughts and feelings into something like poetry or article....and thats even great feeling to write just for yourself and not for admiration and other worldly things........
so, for me i let my mind think and create whatever the concequences would be.....(but now i have started avoiding that especially near exams because this creativity will lead me nowhere on the other hand passing exam will take me to the next year🙂)

o that's what i can see...but what's its purpose here...

yesterday i had good time.i watched whole first season of Scrubs....i had not seen it before....well that was cool!
now seriously i have a plan to make these days really productive.i have problem in public speaking, and now i am going to improve that.i feel great difficulty when i go for presentations and oral exams,so that would be very useful.
if anybody else was facing this problem then please share how you improved.

I think that's the generally-accepted answer to the question "What should I do with my free time?"

Thanks for clarifying for me. I didn't realize it would be that hard to figure out. Oh well, my mind must have been in the gutter yesterday.
