What should I do next?

What do you enjoy doing unrelated to the clinic?

Whatever the answer to that question, I'm sure there will be plenty of resources or opportunities for you to do something in that area! It really doesn't all have to be medically related. If you enjoy teaching, find a high school you can teach as a volunteer. If you enjoy music production, go out and make some music and show it to the world (and you could tie that into medicine too). I've personally found that creative hobbies (illustration, music, sculpting, etc.) tend to have a certain amount of flexibility in order for you to tie them into medicine. It's the best of both worlds.

Keep everything up. Get around 100-150 hours of shadowing in various specialties by the time you apply. Keep doing research and getting your name places. Find non-clinical volunteering at say a food bank or homeless shelter. As for hobbies just find things you like, be it hiking, rock climbing, music, knitting, etc.

Hi, I'm a sophomore pre-med currently working on my ECs. My gpa is currently a 3.96. I have a few hundred hours put into research, and my name is on a poster, and we're working on sending out a manuscript with me as one of the authors. I have around 100 clinical volunteer hours in a hospital and currently working in a clinic. I'm trying to get shadowing this winter break or over the summer. The main thing I dont have at all is nonclinical volunteering or any kind of hobbies really. Do you think I should lighten the research load to strengthen the other parts of my ECs? Thanks
Yes. Start engaging in service to others less fortunate than yourself, and you'll be fine.
