Hi,

I've posted on here a few times, but as I get closer to the midway point of this semester I'm filled with questions.

At the end of this semester, if the current stats continue, I will be sitting at a 3.2cgpa and 2.9sgpa. My parents wanted me to apply this upcoming cycle, but I am not going to because of my sub-3.0 sgpa. I am taking the MCAT soon and have taken two FL practice exams that averaged to 502. Say I get this score on the actual MCAT, then at the end of next semester (fall senior year) if my grades keep trending like they have been, I'll be sitting around a 3.30cpa and 3.05sgpa.

I am currently a hospitalist scribe, hold a leadership position on one of my school's sport teams. I am volunteering at a local therapy center and am shadowing a DO.

My question is, should I apply to DO the end of senior year, or take an SMP? OR is there an alternate route I'm missing but should be considering? I want to set myself up for the best shot. Any advice is appreciated!!

Have you been aceing this year? If not, I suggest a post-bac or SMP.

Please tell your parents that you know better about this process than they do, and if they ever want to see you become a doctor, they should shut up and leave you alone.

No med school is doing you any favors by accepting you when you're at high risk for failing out of med school.

@Goro I completely agree. FINALLY got them off my back about this cycle.. but my question was mainly about the cycle NEXT year. I have been aceing my classes this year (took me long enough..).

I guess what I was wondering was if I should apply to med school before going to an SMP (So, apply May 2018) or wait until the completion of the program? 🙂 I'm sorry I wasn't very clear in my initial post.

Goro, why does everyone suggest an SMP and not an MBS or MS? The guys I known (including me) who did an MBS had much better luck in their applications than the SMP types.

I've been told that the "S" part of the SMP is important for med school admissions.

Some MS programs don't have the rigors of SMP classes like anatomy and the grade averages tend to be inflated.
