What should I do to help my chances of getting off the waitlist?

Hi all,

I have been waitlisted at 2 Texas schools and am feeling pretty nervous. Very grateful to be selected as an alternate after not matching but I would really like to get an acceptance this cycle instead of reapplying. I have already emailed both schools of updates of research and volunteer activities but I would like them to know how much I want to get accepted( at one school in particular). They arent having sit downs with anyone( I already called) so any other advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

There is nothing else that you can do. Every school knows how much you want to be accepted. Every single applicant in your position really wants to be accepted. The process is setup the way it is for a reason. There is nothing else that you can do to influence this process. It is time to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Make a plan for if you don't get in. Answer obvious first question, "Am I going to re-apply next year?" Then plan accordingly. If you get in this season, great, if not, be ready for the next steps.

Exactly as @Mimelin suggests. Just as how washing your car and parking it outside is the best way to make it rain, ramping up for another application cycle is the best way to make sure you won't need it. Of course, if you do need it, it's also the best course of action. Kind of handy that way.

A donation larger than you can probably afford.

How long ago did you submit the update letter? You may be able to submit an additional update letter after the waitlist starts moving (maybe in mid-end of May after the 4/30 deadline?). If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't send any additional correspondence until then.

It'd also be a good idea to prepare yourself for re-application (if you choose to go this route) or figure out alternative plans for your gap year if you end up not getting in.

Send them a six figure donation check.

Patience is a virtue, the need for instant gratification is not.
