Hello,

I am a 26yr old F, trying to pursue veterinary medicine for the past 3 years. I have applied once (last VMCAS cycle) and got rejected from all the schools I have applied to. The reason was pretty obvious ~ my cGPA is 2.01, my last 45 hrs is 2.6 and science GPA is 3.0. However, I have been working in the field to gain animal experience as much as possible.

I have over 1000 hrs of experience as Veterinary assistant in small animal clinic, 2000 hrs of working at a Zoo as an assistant animal keeper, and I have been working as a full time Research Specialist at a veterinary school for 2 years. Upon doing file reviews with several schools, they have all pointed out that my GPA is the only problem here.

Re-taking courses and improving my last 45 hrs is an option, but has turned out to be very expensive. A post-bacc required min 3.0 cumulative GPA for acceptance, and my 3rd option is to re-do an undergraduate in pre-vet.

I wanted to hear opinions/thoughts/advice, on which route should I be taking? Time, years lost is not a factor. Thank you!
I don't know what I can tell you other than to connect with admissions recruiters to tell you how they would view an application like yours who needs a grade reinvention and been working hard on it. GPA is definitely the issue as you have been told, but if you don't pull off a very successful postbac/masters, you probably will have a big challenge ahead. Any programs the vet schools suggest?
