Hey everyone. Something has been on my mind that won't stop bothering me. I recently I got an F in my physiology 2 class =( and right now my gpa is somewhere around a 3.3-3.4 with that F on my transcript. In fact, most of my junior year was downhill. Because of that F, i'm on academic probation for the next quarter. I had a 3.8 at the end of my sophomore year. I still want to go to pharmacy school and become a pharmacist. I'm retaking the class in the fall. I'm a Cali resident and am applying this year. Do I still have a chance?

I wouldn't let that discourage you too much. With a 3.4, you still have a good chance at lots of schools (assuming you're doing well in other aspects of the application too- Rec letters, ECs, etc.). Also, it sounds like you're applying as a junior? So if you dont get in this year, you could always finish your BS and apply again. Dont give up if pharmacy is what you want!

You're going to have to explain what made your junior year tank - what was it?

Then...if you received other poor grades in addition to the F in physiology, you didn't learn the material. That right there will make it difficult to move on.

So - ask yourself - why??? What can you do to learn the material you'll need to know to be at the entrance level - thats what an admissions committee will look at.

Yes, retake that course and get off of probation. You probably should allude to why you bombed that year in your personal statement but make sure that you've explained how you overcame that hump. Many schools have closed-file interviews that don't provide for questions specifically regarding to academic performance or you may need that statement to get an interview as adcoms look at grades and PCATs first.

You still have a good chance if you retake the class for a good grade (psych is a prereq at many schools) and have a good explanation for why your grades slipped (assuming it's a true one - lies are one of the surest things to put get yourself blacklisted).
