Hello,

I am an applicant who applied during the previous application cycle having done little to no research into the medical schools I was applying to. My scores are cGPA 3.37 sGPA 3.34 and MCAT 31R. I have been accepted into one DO program and waitlisted at 2 MD programs.

I applied last year in August, but did not complete my secondaries until December, and am wondering if it is worth it to reapply to MD schools and whether I have a shot.

I have researched the excel files and websites to find out if I am competitive but I am still worried that my GPA is so low that MD programs won't even consider me.

Anyway, I have gone back and forth continuously about whether to start school or to reapply now, but this time send in my secondaries early. I have performed a lot of research, 3 publications, lots of shadowing, founded a service group, lots of volunteering and volunteered in emergency.

Help Please.

Why did you even bothering applying DO if you don't plan on going DO?

You are in a medical school - so go to medical school. Don't waste another year reapplying -- especially with that low of a GPA. You might just end up waitlisted again and out of luck with DO schools as you denied them this year.

If anything keeps you out of med school, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be your GPA, it's going to be the fact that you turned down an acceptance to another med school.

Anyways, like Avoidthetiger said, why would you give up an acceptance for the good chance that you might not get accepted anywhere next year? You are lucky enough to have a shot... so take it.

Wellmif you have something against DO then you shouldn't have applied in the first place.
If you REALLy have to apply again this cycle, then apply to MD schools only. You will have to apply early ( you should have applied already)

Since your GPA is on the low side, you should try to bring that up during this year that you are applying so that you can update schools in Jan.

You haven't been rejected by those 2 MD schools so show interest and try to gain an acceptance.

I agree I don't think you should have applied to a DO school if you weren't going to go. Now you've kind of probably screwed yourself over if you wanted to ever apply DO in the future. I think in your situation I'd probably just go to the DO school.

However, if you only want allopathic then realize that you might have to wait 1-2 years to get in, and that you are gambling because you still might ultimately not get in. I think that you would need to bring up your GPA, and try and focus on the MD schools that gave you interviews before. I agree that your low GPA will probably hurt your chances.

Just go to the DO school. It will get you where you want to be.

If not, you need to do a SMP or something else to get your grades up.
I wouldn't bother wasting a couple of years for a shot.
