I think they fill majority of their class with their own post-bac students.

I dont know if it was because of the financial woes, or to start out fresh with a new name/reputation (yeah right), to just plain honor Rosalind, or maybe even something I can't fathom.

Same school, Different name.

And the school is on probation. And if you go there, your tuition fees will reach 40K/year in no time, placing it up there with Tufts and Albany.

But the school will most likely get off probation, as most do, so that's nothign to worry about. They actually have a really impressive matchlist too, so its not a bad school. They have lower average GPA/MCAT because they take A LOT of thier own post-bacc students who generally have lower averages, thus the reason why they did post-bacc.

They have imposed a tuition freeze for five years, so it will stay ~37k/year.

That's good to know. I heard they were limited on funds, so its good to know that there will be no tuition hike in the next five years. Thanks for the info.

According to their website, too much dependency on student tuition was a main factor for probationary status. Tuition accounted for something like 60% of the operating budget whereas most medical schools have less than 50%. I haven't been able to find this explicitly said anywhere, but I think the school is moving towards becoming a research university. Research brings in money, therefore they would be less dependent on tuition dollars. Rosalind Franklin might have won a Nobel prize if she lived longer (and maybe if she wasn't a woman). It's a pretty good choice if a university wants to emphasize research more.

Just guessing here, but that's what I think.

So lets assume you didn't do post-bacc work there . . . now what kind of a student are they looking for?

who knows. my friend is there at post-bacc....says that the program is horrible. everyone is just cutthroat; barely any cooperation, etc. thats just her opinion though

If i remember right, one of the main reasons they are on probation was over reliance on tuition for $$$.

EDIT: redundant post

they wanted to be able to say "we are the only medical school in the nation named after a woman." at least that's the only reason i see.

what do they like to see in potential students?
They want students that don't care whether or not their medical school will still be around in 4 years. :scared:

there have been other schools on probation, and they've all gotten off of it...and rosalind franklin will soon be off too.

I just finished the post-bac program at finch and got into their school. Its not competitive but you do have to work hard. Oh, and only about 25% of the class comes from the post-bacc program directly. If anyone needs info about the program or what kind of apps they look for directly into the med school, just Private message me.

I have three friends in the medical school there and they absolutely love it. I was there for three days and saw a lot of cooperation among students and students seemed really happy there. You will have competition no matter where you go and there will always be some people who are cut throat but that doesn't mean the whole class is like that. I got a very good positive feeling from that school.
