What sorts of things have people done to improve their app 2nd time around?

Hello,

I am in the middle of my post-bacc studies and am considering taking an extra year to strengthen my application before applying for the first time around.

I am interested in doing the same sorts of things people would do to improve their application who got rejected the first time--meaning a medically-related full-time job, more volunteering, taking more upper level science and doing well in them, etc.

Anyone have any advice on things they did to really strengthen their overall application?

Thanks!

I improved my mcat score and become an EMT.

I applied last year and didn't get in.

I made sure my AMCAS application was filled with every single EC I could think of. There was not a space left on it this year for anything else. 🙂

I retook my MCAT after studing for another 4+ months and increased my score by 4

I did a post bacculaurate semester and entered a MPH program and I finshed my spring PB and summer MPH with a 4.0 GPA after being out of school for 3 years.

I shadowed IM, peds, FM, surgeons, and ER docs to get back in the swing of things, get perspective on the profession, and make contacts.

I also met with the admissions deans to see what I could do to strengthen my application for this year.

I did my homework so I never have to do this process again in my life.
