hi, i posted this on the pre-dental forum as well, so sorry if it's repetitive....

what kind of stats do i need to get into the following schools from out-of-state: UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Denver, UCSF.

I have a 3.8 GPA from a top 5 engineering undergrad (though I fulfilled my orgo and bio pre-reqs at a junior college since i am working full-time as an engineer). assume my dat will be somewhere in the ballpark of ~20.

is it worth my time applying to these schools?

i know my stats looks pretty good, but i heard it's IMPOSSIBLE to get into these schools from out-of-state
🙁

Speaking to the University of Colorado, they have a class size of 38. They reserve 25 spots (or so) for in-state residents, and save the rest for students coming from the WICHE states. Those states are the ones without dental schools--Hawaii, New Mexico, Utah to name a few (there are many more)--that have an agreement with some of the dental schools to allow space for residents of these localities. Therefore, it is VERY difficult/highly unlikely that acceptance will be granted to you if you are not in this situation. Another school that practices this screening process is UMKC.
I'm not saying you shouldn't try, but just sharing information I have learned in the application/interview process with the University of Colorado.
