Hi guys,

I am a first year and am interested in ophthalmology. A chief resident (and his attending) at my medical school have agreed to let me shadow them. Which surgeries should I ask to observe if they give me a choice. Which procedures will give me a good idea of what bread and butter general ophtho is?

Thanks

Watch a few cataract surgeries if possible. This is the bread and butter, and it's usually what sets the hook for interested students. I agree with Andrew, watch everything, but bear in mind that if a 2 hour orbital decompression turns you off that doesn't mean that ophtho isn't for you.

Visioncam,

Did you say that you're going to be doing oculoplastics? Are you doing an ASOPRS or non-ASOPRS fellowship? I'd be interested to hear aobut your experience during the oculoplastic fellowship interviews and how you evaluated different programs.
