okay, i just met my school counselor or advisor.

today she told me if i want to apply 10 different dental schools, then i

might have to write 10 different essays if they require me to fill in secondary application.

is that true?? all schools require 10 different essays if they want me to fill out
secondary application?

About half of the schools out there have secondaries that require additional essays. They're all in response to specific questions though, so it's not like you can write 10 essays out now. The good news is that a lot of the questions are very similar between all the schools. I used the same responses for most of my secondaries and just tweaked the answers as necessary to fit that school.

Most schools' "secondaries" just require you to send in more money (~$35-75). You just have to write ONE personal statement for the AADSAS app.

Some schools do require additional questions/essays in their supplements, but these are usually short answer and specific questions that they ask (most often you've already filled out the answers in your AADSAS.. i.e. explain any dental related activities you have done). You won't know these questions until you've submitted your AADSAS though, so I would concentrate on writing your personal statement for the time being and fill out your secondaries (if there are any) after you have sent it in this summer.

PS. Most pre-health advisers don't know much about the process for applying to dental school since they focus on med school apps, which while there are somesimilarities, are different. Good luck!

No you write your personal essay, then basically one more. Then change the names =0 for each individual school. Honestly though, all my secondary essays were very similar questions except Loma Linda. They want to know if you drink alcohol.

The essay prompts on my secondaries varied way too much to do this. One of the only repeat questions I got, worded many ways, was “why are you applying to our school.” Because each school’s program is unique, merely replacing the name of the school in the essay would not fly.

Not every school will have essay question on their secondaries. On the flip side some schools have multiple prompts with up to ~500 word responses. Those were fun!

I also found the essay prompts varied too much to be able to cut and paste from previous essays. However, we all get through it. After all, our goal is to get into dental school so we have to jump through every loop they tell us too. I just did the secondary essays as they came. Don't collect them or think about how many you have to do. Good luck!😀

This isn't always true. The University of Minnesota requires several essays on their secondary depending on your situation. For instance, they have two essays everyone has to write but, if you are a re-applicant or have had academic difficulties, you will have to write more. Each school is unique.

If you did have to write 10 essays would you not apply to dental school?

lol

@op dont worry about the secondaries now........focus on primary!

just worry about your personal statement for AADSAS.

if I have to write 10 essays i'm going into a different field! Seriously 10 is just rediculous! If that's any resemblance to what D school will be like I want no part of it!

I think I could write 9 though, just not 10, too too many for me he he

LOL, i had that same sense of dread!
<----definitely not English major.

as to getting you to interviews, i don't think secondary essays actually count for that much unless you're in a hole academically. they just want to see that you've thought things through a bit. and yup...cut copy and paste were my friends!

out of all 8 schools i applied to, only 1 required an additional essay for the secondary. suck it up or you're going to have one hell of a time in dental school.

jb!🙂

I think I had to write a few, but thy were no big deal. just make sure you spel evrytheeng rite. Yoo cud luck lyk an ideuht.
