Why is it that some schools insist that a letter of recommendation isn't enough? Oh no, now I have to track down my professors who took months to send off my letters of recommendation and make them check the individual little boxes on a schoool's individual rinky dink personal form as to whether I was "unimaginative, dull, inept, mature, passive" or some crap like that. What does a school hope to gain from this?

I'm sorry, but I'm years out of college, and I hope all of my professors just respond that they have no way of evaluating garbage like this at this point in time.

What an absolute waste. I guess some of you are lucky who have these pre-med advistory committees. At least you don't have to jump through all these ridiculous hoops. Let my record speak for itself. 😡

Sorry. Just venting. The med school admissions process, btw, are way more complicated than it should be.

for the love of god, applying tomedical schools has led to massive websites (like this one) where thousands of students come and get lost in all the nonsense. you're preaching to the muhfu|<ing choir, man!

What schools are you talking about? For most schools, it is acceptable to just send in your general letters of rec (or a packet if you are using a service that combines letter into a packet) without using the school's particular form.

Um....correct me if I"m wrong, but those forms are only used in conjunction with the Committee Letter--they helped my committee write a composite letter for me. If you are not going through a committee, then I don't believe this is required.

No committee at my school. But the school requires that I send these individual forms to my evaluators (b/c I don't have a committte). All this AFTER I already got them to write me letters. Considering it took me months to get a letter from the 2 required profs, this ought to be interesting.

Let's not forget the fact that they also want five essays.

I know I'm just taking up space. Sorry. This is one of my state schools. I almost feel obligated to answer this junk for them.

My other state school was so awesome. Just send them a check and write out your social security number by hand. None of this, "Describe the biggest obstacle you have overcome in your life and how you overcame it in two sentences" and "Please describe your favorite color. Please limit yourself to 2000 words" junk.

Are you talking about UPitt? Yup. They have that form. Northwestern has a form that I need to give to my rec. writers stating what font size, margins, etc. they need to use.
Good thing I have a committee so both of these schools will waive the form requirement.

To the OP: Good luck. I don't see the big deal if you have give them an envelope to send their recs. This should just be another form to hand them when you see them anyway.

As for the essays... Tell me about 'em. We all know they suck. Personally, I feel bad writing a check without providing additional info. Rush requires eleven essays or something. Compared to that, UPitt is a piece of cake.
