What items are good to have with you? Or even items you shouldn't bring. Like a purse, notepad, etc.? A book, possibly?

Thanks 🙂

I just brought a light purse with things like mini toothbrush+paste, floss, gum, wallet, pen, tissues, small snack (especially if lunch isn't for awhile!!), and a small water bottle (most schools gave us water bottles, so I didn't want to bring a full bottle). I also brought a "portfolio" just to hold my CV, info I prepared to review about the school, questions I planned to ask, and photos of art just in case they wanted to see evidence of manual dexterity (never was asked for it though). Most schools gave out a folder with a lot of paper in it, so you don't need to bring a notepad if you don't want to! I guess you could bring a book if you get there super early... Sorry if that's more detail than you wanted, but bottom line is just bring what you need lol!

*edit: And I also didn't bring any "extra" pairs of shoes to do a switch like I've seen some applicants do on this thread; I just wore comfortable flats! So just minimize the extra weight in your bag where you can 🙂

At my interviews, I took myself, my purse with essentials (mini lint roller, mini brush and mirror, dental floss, umbrella, extra pen, things like that) and a notepad. I've seen people bring their luggage, but at one school, people had to drag it around with them because there wasn't anywhere to put it. I personally checked my luggage at my hotel so I wouldn't have to deal with it.

That reminds me, I brought extra shoes! 🙂

I had MMI format at my interview and I was happy that I didn't bring anything like a portfolio or a bag... (although they provided one with water, folder, pen, etc)
Moving around with time on the line, you don't really want to carry a lot of stuff.

haha, that's awesome!😀 I have no ability at all to walk in heels, so I just stuck to the flats! My bag was also pretty small so I didn't want to awkwardly whip out a pair of shoes and stuff in a new pair lol!

Thank you everyone 🙂 just wanted to know what the usual is! Definitely wont be bringing anything like luggage but wanted to make sure a small purse with the essentials would be okay. For those of yall that mentioned shoes, which seems irrelevant in the grand scheme but anyway, would you guys recommend heels? With the typical slacks and a blazer.

I wore heels for the entire interview (including tour) at one school and then heels + flats for another school. I only recommend them if you can walk in them comfortably and properly (in other words, don't look like Bambi).

I would say I saw about 50/50 for heels/flats at my interviews.

haha totally get what you mean! thank you so much 🙂

Those are really well thought out suggestions. I do agree it is the small things to be aware of so I'll definitely keep things like that in mind the day of 🙂 I would hate to bring extra things that aren't necessary so I'll keep it a minimum that day. Especially if the school provides everything you'll need for the day, namely a notepad. Thanks for all the suggestions! Definitely the most important thing is to be yourself 🙂

Definitely bring at least a notepad and a pen. 2 schools I interviewed at didn't give me a folder or anything to write with/on. Also bring mints for after lunch. Good luck!! I brought a lot of stuff in a large bag.
