Hello all, what do you guys suggest bringing to an interview? Is it necessary to bring a backpack? Or does that look bad? I am mostly thinking about what I should do if I am given some papers or brochures. Thanks.

Right now I am just have a wallet sized photo, wallet, cell phone. Should I bring anything else?

You don't need a backpack...just a leather bound legal pad with questions you plan to ask and info you find necessary to jot down should be all you need, unless the school wants you to bring additional items. The more stuff you bring, the more stuff you have to haul around for the constant moving you will be doing.

I'm just picturing you wearing a suit and backpack at the same time...

But in all seriousness, I think the backpack is overkill. The above poster probably has it right, if you want to bring anything at all that is.

Just curious, why the picture? Did the school ask for it?

Bring a fanny pack. You are on a tour of the school after all.

Yes the school wants a pic. Thanks guys, I'm off to my interview now!

The email I received said they were taking a picture of us. Not that we needed to bring one.

????

Some schools do request that you bring a picture with you--not all schools though.

This is from a slightly different perspective, but it wouldn't hurt to bring things to your interview that display who you are or what your skills are. Obviously you don't want to start your own talent show in the interview and throw it in their face, but if occasion allows (i.e. they ask you a relevant probing question), have something to show. For example, I had, by coincidence, some pictures on my phone of a carving project I had just recently completed. When some of my interviewers asked the question of how I am confident that my hand skills would be sufficient, or something along those lines, I would offer to show them a picture. Invariably, they were pleasantly surprised and I felt like it definitely made me stand out from the crowd as far as presenting something positively unique.

Just some condoms. You never know who you may meet. You could even score a guaranteed acceptance with the Director of Admissions lol.

lol awesome. But seriously you don't need anything, and I felt like people who brought leather pads/papers and whatnot are just trying to look professional; cause they aren't writing anything in there . . . i think.
