I'm planning to apply the upcoming year (2013), but can't decide what to do next semester. Take classes to boost my bcp and science GPA or just study for my DAT's? I'm a non traditional student (graduated with a BA in african studies, but am not URM) who took post bacc classes after getting my bachelors.

What do schools look at? The scores including +/-, or the scores without +/-?

incl +/- w/o +/-
BCP: 2.89 2.94
Science: 2.94 2.99
Non-science: 3.31 3.29
Total: 3.16 3.17

I'm going to be blunt: you need to do both things! Raise your GPA and have a high DAT score if you want great chances. Competition for acceptance is only getting fiercer, and your GPA is below most averages. Best of luck!

Your post-bacc bcp pre-req grades were sub-3?

I took a few science classes in undergrad because it was required to graduate and i did horribly in those classes so those were calculated into my current BCP.

Bring up your GPA!

I was lucky enough to land one interview, but my DAT were decent and I have alot of EC.

I think you need to take as many BCP classes as possible and get A's in all of them next year. I mean 16+ science credits fall and spring. Then study for the DAT in May/June and take it in July. Your GPA is going to severely limit you so you need to do everything possible over the next year to bring that up. I was in a similar boat as you 2 years ago (BCP GPA was 2.0) and took 60 4.0 science credits before I applied and it has worked out well so far, at least on the interview front.

I am on the same boat with the others. BCP and science below 3 are not good. You have to prove to adcom that you are capable to handle 20+ units of science classes in d-school since the course load with be much more intense. Unless you get 24+ on the DAT, have a amazing story to tell, and plenty of ECs, the chance of even getting an interview is very slim. I'm not trying to bring you down, just want to tell it like it is. You can do a post-bach or 1 year MA (like my friend is doing) and make sure to get a very high GPA, volunteer at a dental clinic and study hard for the DAT. I knew a guy who had 2.0 GPA at CC who later transfered to UCLA, studied hard, got straight 4.0, accepted into UCSF d-school and later into their oral surgery program. So just do anything you can to improve your profile.
