What to do after you've blown an interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what exactly do you mean by blown?

maybe it wasn't as bad as you think?

Tripped and stumbled when it was my time to shine. Got pretty standard questions but shot myself in the foot with self-deprecating responses; committed all sorts of "interview no-no's". Yada yada ...

Was this your first, or only, interview?

This is why we say apply broadly and attend as many interviews as necessary or until you get an acceptance.

Every interview is an opportunity to not only get an acceptance, but in the very least to hone your interview skills.

Cry, then convince yourself you didn't want to go there anyway.

Generally you should consider a romantic dinner to bring the relationship to the next phase.

Why are most of you being so mean to the OP? I thought you wanted to "help people".

Well it's too late now. Just do better at the next interview.

I'd like to help you by finding you a sense of humor. does that count?

All I can think about is how awesome this thread would be if the title ended with "interviewer" instead of just "interview"

If that were the case, the OP better have been accepted.

OP, don't be too down on yourself.

For me, there was almost a direct inverse correlation with how I felt about an interview and the outcome.
My first interview at Buffalo...I thought I rocked it. (Waitlisted)
My second interview at Mayo...I thought I bombed it. (Accepted)
Wake Forest...I was offered a job working in a lab "between years one and two..." (Rejected)
The other interviews were a weird mix and only once or twice did I perform as I thought I did.

The wait will suck, but don't put too much stock in how you think you did until they tell you what they thought.

:luck:

b double e double r, u n.

I also have not seen any correlation between how I think I did and whether or not I have been accepted/waitlisted. And as an interesting side note, I have also walked out of interviews thinking "wow what a crappy interviewer, why do they let them do that?" Seems like everyone in the process has off-days.

Good luck 🙂

If you really think your interview was just awful (like you broke down, said something offensive, didn't answer any questions, etc) then call the school and see if they can offer another interview. I know some will let you reinterview if you like.

You'd better have a good excuse in the new interview though. They may ask you why you wanted to do another interview.

Otherwise, beer isn't a bad idea. Who the hell drinks vodka? It's the only form of alcohol where the goal is to get it to have the least amount of taste possible. If you're going for hard liquor, I say gin, tequila, or whiskey. And if you go for whiskey, drink bourbon because the other types of whiskeys are for wussies.

If we were laughing with the OP, I'd join right in.

Ok if anyone on here was actually trying to be malicious they probably wouldn't be on SDN. Everyone's comments being goofy basically means there isn't **** the OP can do and it's better to move on and laugh it off.

BTW I suggest you remove the "feminine hygenic implement" you have up your ***. It might help you relax and laugh a little. 😉

I thank all of you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the number of submissions is far greater than than can be accepted. If your submission was not accepted, I encourage you to consult your pre-medical adviser before suggesting another interview-phailure coping method next year.

Sincerely,
