What to do if not accepted???

Hey everyone. I've yet to start my pre-med major and I'm not meaning to start off with a negative thoughts, but for those who don't get accepted into Med school...what's next for you? I would be getting loans for both pre and med school and from what I understand with most loans you don't collect interest or have to pay if you're an active student. So if you get rejected, do most people take random courses to keep the loans from going active or just get a job and start paying? Any info is appreciated.

@Joe2016 you havent started pre med yet so don't be so negative. There are scholarships for med school and school repayment programs through the military branches and National Health service corps. Whole bunch of others too. Sometimes scholarships are hard to get after undergrad. In the event you do not get into med school on your first try, you could do a service term like Americorps for ten months or get a certificate in something you are interested in like EMT, Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy. It would help if you got a healthrelated certificate.

There are a million permutations and you won't know until you get there. Get through undergrad one step at a time and you will figure out what is best later.

One step at a time...

The vast majority of pre-college pre-meds end up changing their minds long before med schools give the thumbs up or thumbs down. So at this point, you should have both a Plan A (physician) and a Plan B (something else) and give them both serious work and planning, with the Plan B possibility being treated as the significantly more likely of the two, because at this point, it is.

So for now -- What would you want to do if you couldn't become a doctor? Head in that direction, while ALSO taking the science courses you will need as a pre-med. If your Plan B is to become a chemist, great -- no extra work. If your Plan B is investment banking, do well in those courses and ALSO do well in Bio and Chem for science majors and all bases are covered.

Re-evaluate after your freshman year. Is med school even an option still? (GPA still good?) Do you WANT it to be? Gradually shift your emphasis as you have more information to work with because a BA in biology and a sub 3.0 GPA is NOT going to get you where you want to be...

I have a degree in Music and I'm going to med school. Pre-Med isn't a major it's a track. Get a degree in what you want, take the required classes, volunteer and do well on the MCAT. The rest will work itself out.

...also, no one else has said anything, but you really need to learn how loans work.
