What to do in 6 months off?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In your shoes, I would travel. Maybe go on a cross country road trip with my dog, or visit another country... Just something adventurous, because you're going to be tied down for a while (due to medical school) and after that, you might have a wife and kids... So yeah, take this time out to have fun. Seriously.

Why graduate early at all? Stay for another semester of college and take classes that you enjoy the most, along with being with your friends. You will never have the opportunity of being a college student ever again.

I would go into a state of hibernation and sleep the whole time! After a lack of sleep over the past almost 5 years, I definitely need to catch up =)

Stay close to campus so you can hang out / party.

Audit classes so you can learn, but only what you choose to.

Get whatever kind of simple job you can to make some cash, even (or especially) if its just part time.

Travel with the cash your job gives you

Enclose the remaining funds in an envelope, and mail them to the address that I'm about to PM you

Why would someone pay a semester of tuition for unnecessary classes when he is about to begin 4 years of more school?

OP, do whatever you want. Learn a language, travel, do research, sleep, etc. In your shoes I would probably try to get some sort of job.

Many people are on financial aid and don't actually pay the whole cost of tuition...

My thought process exactly.

Staying close to campus would be absolutely ideal. Mailing away my remaining funds to you-- not so much. I got med school to pay for!

Yeah, I agree with the getting a job route but I have no idea what job, haha.

Sadly, not the case for me. As BerlinDude said, I'm not about to pay an extra 17-18k tuition to take classes I don't care for. Besides, doing engineering undergrad has left me pretty jaded about taking classes that have no bearing on my life.

sleep or travel... two of the greatest gifts in life :prof:

I've been accepted to medical school and I am graduating in December. So essentially I have 6 months to do whatever I want but I have no idea what to do. I'd love to shut my brain off, stay close to campus, and enjoy the rest of my senior year with my friends but I'd also like to stay involved either academically or medically part-time or even full-time (preferably paid, as well). However, I'm not too inclined to continue researching for 6 months. I know I'm asking for a lot here but does any one have any tips?

get a girlfriend or boyfriend, whatever floats your boat.

Go to Puerto Rico and chill. GO have fun in the sun and swim the warm water. Go to El Yunque (rain forest) and El Morro (fort in San Juan) and have fun before the real work begins.

Congratulations on your acceptance, felicidades !

Have fun and stay confident!

I'm in the same boat, I am also graduating in December. and my plan is to get a job (still looking) and work until May and save a lot. then i will travel to South Africa and watch the World Cup (God willing) before coming back to four years of stress and a lifetime of responsibility.

JERK!!! 😡😡😡

Do a medical mission, or something that will motivate you during medical school. Me, I would study the female body as much as possible.

GO FOR IT!!!

You have a once in a lifetime opportunity coming up!

I kinda wanna to quit my job and just be a bum for the next 8 months till med school starts... But then again I'll prob get bored in a bout a week and wish I didn't quit my job haha. But honestly, travel and have some fun. You totally deserve it.

I just did this yesterday, same worries. I don't like doing research so once I got the acceptance it was tough to stay. I am moving home 1200 miles to Colorado and purchased a ski pass for the season. This is the first time I've actually spent the winter in Colorado and since I didn't go to school there ever, don't know too many people so if anyone ever wants to go skiing, let me know I'll be game. When not skiing I plan to read, play video games, cook, find random one time jobs, and sleep.

I did the travel by yourself in Europe thing last summer and didn't really enjoy it, so I'd be hesitant to go travel by myself. That being said, if anyone finds a good program abroad let me know, I might be interested in joining you.
