Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could offer advice on what to do in my year off? I am re-applying for this year for MD and applying to DO for first time and am deciding between getting a job in the medical field or completing a masters program. Here is my stats...please help. And I am retaking the MCAT this summer.
overall gpa:3.76
science gpa:3.53
MCAT:26P
I have volunteered in the emergency room, have clinical research, shadowed, etc. I have been accepted to a one year masters of biology program and am deciding if this is the best route for me.(wanting to know so I can put it on my AMCAS if I will be doing the masters) Will it really help to do this extra year of school or would it be better to gain more experience. Thanks for your help and good luck to everyone else who is applying.

Since your a reapplicant, I would ask some of the schools that waitlisted or rejected you what the weakpoints were in your application. If it was gpa (which it does not seem to be) then the bio program would be a good idea. But if they wanted to see you with more clinical experience a job in the med field would be good. I think you are on the right track by retaking your MCAT, but I think your current MCAT score is adequate to get into many of the DO schools.

Good job! You will definately get into a DO school!

Thank you guys for your advice and your encouragement; I really appreciate it. I am going to call a couple of the schools that I didn't get into and see what they say are my weaknesses. Good luck to you guys.
